View Full Version : It!'s A Close Play At The Plate!...
Or, maybe not! I seldom played behind the plate but I ran over/into a few people who did. Was an "out" most of the time, don't recall anyone getting seriously hurt but...whaddaya think? Let's just have the ump raise his thumb if the ball beats the runner to the plate?...Whether or not the catcher has his foot on the plate when he actually CATCHES it? (like SO many plays at second, when the infielder's foot is nowhere damn NEAR the bag when ball gets to his glove!?:irked:) I know, let's put a red stripe mid-way across the plate...the catcher puts his foot on the field side and the runner has to contact the plate, without CONTACT, (it's a FORCEout!) on the dug-out side! Problem solved...put a super slo-mo camera to work and if umpy just CAN'T make up his mind, he simply walks back to the screen, goes under the hood, turns around, strides back to the plate and either jerks up the thumb or spreads the palms flat! AWEsome! Makes for great TV!...Just SHOOT me!

Why would I watch baseball? I haven't done much in the last few years.
Hockey has come to rule in my house. And I am actually willing to pay $30 parking to see it.
MLB should talk to the FIA and do the opposite.
I think this is only the second baseball thread after the "Why are there no baseball threads" thread! :D

I kinda like the Pete Rose comments. "What's next? The players already wear more armor than a humvee in Afghanistan."

As someone who has also seen exactly one cricket match/test/game, this link amused me greatly.
We picked up the EPSN app on the Roku. We can stream in EPSN3 and other live coverage - now my son is addicted to watching cricket which seems to get heavy coverage. I have no clue what is going on and the score is typically 652-3 or something like that. :saywhat:

It's easy...
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!
