TKGAngel, there's something to be said for winning when you play poorly.

On another Bills note... why are you wearing white at home? Most gorgeous home uniforms in the NFL (with the exception of the Chargers powder blues), and you let the Vikings come in and ugly everything up with the purple?

It seemed that game was settled in the first few possessions on play selection alone when the Browns chose to try to run and were physical and determined enough to do it. Meanwhile, the Bengals kept trying to loft high arching deep passes into a 40mph wind. That's never going to work. With that wind only flat hard passes that don't spend much time in the air are possible but that means there is not much chance for the receiver to adjust to the ball. That puts a lot of importance on qb accuracy. ;)

It didn't take long for the Bengals to collectively believe they couldn't win and they quit.

It seemed as if the Bengals came in with a game plan that couldn't work with a 40mph wind and refused to change it.

Just read that Andy Dalton last night was awarded a PhD in Weedenology.

dando
11-07-14, 12:18 PM
Last night I longed for Akili Smith. That's how bad Dalton was. It didn't matter what he threw. His throws were high all night long. Credit goes to the Browns DBs for taking Sanu and Green out of the game, left Gresh and Little, with some Hill mixed (they missed Gio in that regard). They had success on the ground in the first half, but couldn't support it with an effective passing game. By the second half they had to rely on the passing attack, which just wasn't working. The OL was subpar, but it didn't help that the Browns could simply pin their ears back and pressure Dalton, which is the key to getting into the Ginger Ninja's noggin. Much like how the GMen took down the Brady Bunch in XLII. My patience with Lewis is rapidly diminishing. It might be a time for a change. They can use the excuses that the D missed Rey Rey, Tez and Hall, but both QBs threw under the same conditions. One succeeded, with a crap WR corps, and the other failed miserably. I don't think they quit...the D gave up only 7 points in the second half, but the O had no consistency, which kept the D on the field, and they again couldn't stay on the field on 3rd down and couldn't get off the field on 3rd down. The box score stats don't have the ToP listed, but it had to be close to 2:1 for the game. They also lost the TO (4:1) and IMO penalty (the box score does not list these #s either) battles. There is one thing that is becoming consistent after the Pats, Colts and Browns games: they suck. :(

Dalton's passer rating was 2.0 He threw 3 interceptions. And Gipson dropped a fourth that hit him right between the numbers. The redhead of course isn't that bad, but he isn't very good either. And Little is horrible.

Ginger doesn't play well under pressure. Too much evidence to dispute that. He just can't adjust when the conditions or opponent dictate it. Some of the blame is coaching, but the coaches aren't throwing INTs or fumbling under pressure (Carolina).

EDIT: I have no idea why Little is still on the roster since Green returned. Yes, Marvin Jones is out for the season, but it must mean the Sanzy experiment is over. Too bad. I thought he could be like Welker, but he has issues hanging onto the ball.

I think they quit... Or were ill prepared. At least on offense.

Starting in q2 they had several cuts to the sideline where you could hear offensive player bitching about this and that and Dalton arguing that they just needed to do their jobs and execute and everything will be ok. I saw little intensity. Frankly, that kind of defeatist talk should be totally verboten and it says something about the culture for them to think it was ok. I put that on Dalton's and Lewis' leadership. It is something that should have been settled in July. If it wasn't Dalton should have handled it last night, but I guess he didn't have much cred last night. ;)

nrc
11-08-14, 02:38 PM
Well that was painful. I really don't get it. This is the same team (more or less) that just scratched and clawed it's way to a sweep over the Ravens. So it's not like every "big game" summons "Bad Andy" and it's not a simple matter of pressure because Dalton has made his fair share of come from behind wins.

Obviously Dalton was the key problem in the offense, but it was like the team collapsed around him. Both lines were getting knocked three yards back and that's not typical. Maybe the first sighting of "Bad Andy" so early in the game just deflated the entire team. In some games they've been able to fight through those things and often Dalton has led them in that. But failing to get off to a good start seems to spawn doubts that quickly snowball.

I like Lewis and I like Dalton but I wonder if they're not just too similar in their leadership. They're both very staid, "Go to work and do your job" guys. I don't mean that in a bad way, it works for some players and in some circumstances. It has built this team into a consistent winner even if it hasn't gotten them over the hump in the playoffs. This was the same situation they had with Carson Palmer. That team was immature and this one is just young. Maybe something more is needed for these guys at times like these.

It seemed like Hue Jackson should have been the guy to fire things up. He's more that type. But when I seem him with Dalton it looks like all Xs and Os. Maybe he feels like he needs to treat Dalton with kid gloves. If so that may reflect the real underlying problem with Dalton's psyche.

If he's that fragile they'd better break him down and rebuild him now because the rest of this season is like something out of a "Saw" movie for the Bengals. It's mainly away games, mostly in really tough venues for them. Their only remaining home games are the Steelers and then the Broncos on Monday night. Unless something changes Manning may get some more passing records for Christmas and the Bengals may get another goose egg.

The Bills have said that it takes 3 days to remove a foot of snow from the stadium. Whenever they can get the shovelers in, its going to be a 24/7 operation to get the stadium ready. Adding to the fun is the flooding potential this weekend - rain and temps in the 50s.

I read a bunch of tweets about Dalton throwing all night and during the game. Sup with Bengals QBs hurling during games (reference the pre-season game and the 3rd string QB throwing up on the field just before the snap a tossing a TD pass). Not calling a timeout after the INT just before the half and following completion was just plain stupid. They had all three remaining, but they let the clock run to under :30, and Dalton was pressured and then threw his 3rd INT. :irked: Then there was the onside kick after they scored to take the lead. I understand they saw the look they wanted, but there need to be exceptions on this unless you're Les Miles. :saywhat: And then tossing the red flag under 2 minutes...that one worked to our advantage, but Jeebus he should know better. :shakehead:

There's no doubt he knew better, but since the field officials, game replay officials and replay officials in NY somehow didn't see the invisible 12th man, Lewis did the best possible thing. Challenge, lose a timeout for an illegal challenge, but win anyway because it was a blown call. Very shrewd move, IMO.

After the game Hobson tweeted that Marvin admitted the mistake and that he should have just called time out. Luckily it worked out in our favor. That game was just bizarre.

Meh. Could be worse...you be a Redskins fan. :gomer: Or BenGals for that matter. :irked: :saywhat: But hey, progress...Andy didn't throw an INT yesterday. :gomer: OTOH, he did manage to barf again...this time a football. :irked: Time for Marvin to go. Period.

EDIT: Oh, and apparently the Lambs trotted out the players they acquired from the RGIII trade as captains. :gomer:

There is nothing worse than losing to a one win Raiders team. The 49ers might have to move to LA.

Ummm, well actually, you could be a BenGals fan. Losing to said 9ers in the Super Bowl...twice. Once with tOSU Legend Archie Griffin (and fumbling a kickoff). :grumbles: :irked:

No sale. There is no shame in losing to the 49ers. It was an honor just to be on the same field. ;)

OK, this is curious...two weeks in a row that Fox has AFC-only games. Last week it was Clowns/Colts. This week Clowns/BenGals. First time I've seen that happen. Any idea what up wit dat shizz? I was looking forward to Sims calling the game with Nantz. Can't get enough of 'Bingles'. :gomer: :saywhat:

It's only one game but if I were a Browns fan I'd be really worried right now. Manzier didn't provide even a hint of potential in this game. He showed bad mechanics, bad decision making, and looked very average athletically.

For the Bengals the Playoffs start now. They have the Broncos at home and the Steelers in Pittsburgh. While they really only need to win one, if they can't win them both then they're just battling for another one and done.

I read somewhere that when he played at T A&M, 90% of his throws were to his primary receiver, who was wide open most of the time. So he has zero experience working through his progressions to find an open receiver. Its something that has to be learned in games over a period of time. Some college qbs can learn to do it and some can't. I don't have a clue as to whether he will make it. I think you can conclude nothing from that game yesterday.

Akili Smith, Jr. IMO. I loved the INT in the end zone when the other WR did the TD sign. :D I took a lot of crap on FB from Clowns fans last week. Midget. Still smiling. :D
