They are very sneaky with the learnin'.
You think you're watching a show about boats and before you know'd it you're doin' subtraction.

Unfortunately they've ruined it. It's so politically correct now :(

Unfortunately they've ruined it. It's so politically correct now :(i remember plenty of complaining about the left leaning views of the show in 1969. FWIW ;)

I would say it's not as good because none of the original characters are ever on. My son watches it from time-to-time, and I think I have seen Big Bird one time and Cookie Monster twice. If you love Elmo though, you are in luck.

They aren't on as much because they are semi- to mostly retired but Big Bird was on a series 45 episode a month or so ago. Cookie Monster has had a lot of screen time this season too.
Caroll Spinney is 80 years old.
Susan (Loretta Long) is 76.
Bob (Bob McGrath) is 82.
Gordon (Roscoe Orman) is 70.
Luis (Emilio Delgado) is 74.
Maria (Sonia Manzano) is 60.
Hell Gabi and Miles were born on Sesame Street and they are both in college on the show now.
Gordon, Luis & Maria are still on regularly. Alan, Leela & Chris do much of the work now but they have been on for a long time, 18, 6 and 7 years respectively.
Burt & Ernie are still around. They stopped making Elmo's World about 5 years ago and have replaced it with Elmo the Musical which is the Sesame Street version of Glee. Murray's role has greatly expanded and he is now a regular with a couple segments per show.
It's probably mostly nostalgia, but how can you improve on either song?
Classic. Total classic.

If you're ever in the need of a good, sobbing cry; Big Bird singing 'It's Not Easy Being Green' at Jim Henson's funeral will do it every single time. I'm not linking it here because I'm not sure what OC's flood insurance is like.

I always thought the Mahna Mahna song was funnier with pink furry cows (snowths?) as backup singers. :D

I knew mahna mahna was also a staple on Benny Hill but there is much I didn't know including that the Muppets performed it on the Ed Sullivan Show.http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mah_Nà_Mah_Nà

The version I posted is the original. The one Indy posted is a Muppets performance. IIRC, that's the version from The Muppet Show. Henson separated from Sesame Street in the 70s and formed his own production group, which is the one that Di$ney now owns. A core group with Oscar, Big Bird, Snuffy, Bert & Ernie, etc. stayed with Sesame while Kermit, Piggy, Animal, Gonzo went with Henson, but have appeared on Sesame over the years.

That's not the original, either. Mahna Mahna was originally featured in a questionable film titled Sweden: Heaven and Hell about a year earlier. The original featured considerably more nudity, fewer puppets.
I remember excitedly rushing home from first grade to watch the first very episode, as 5-year old datachicane was firmly in the target demographic.

From the movie.

This clip is entirely G-rated. The movie itself is one of those terrible Italian late 1960's mondo train wrecks.
That's not the original, either.
I meant the original Sesame Street version. As they say, what happens in Sweden should stay in Sweden...especially Lutefisk (and ABBA). :gomer: ;)
