Let's take this the other way. Ferrari rendering of the cars that the recently proposed rules changes could result. They could not agree on the changes for 2016... Somebody please save us from the batmobile.

Sheesh...THAT one looks like an Indycar, too! The Ferrari aero kit.Given how common this design approach has become is it possible this actually is the superior engineering solution and we are the equivalent of old farts wanting the engine in the front?
Nah. :D

That Ferrari mock-up looks a thousand times better than today's Indycars, in my opinion. It is radical intentionally, like a concept car at a big auto show, but it doesn't look like it is sprouting tumors on the side with a needle-nose in the front.
The back view also seems to indicate it is powered by nuclear fusion a la the sun, so that's also kinda cool. :)

I was just about to post a similar comment, LOL!
BTW, I'm an ex-smoker and old enough to remember when you could smoke just about everywhere, so I'm trying not to judge. BUT, had more than one hot ash fall in my lap at a point I couldn't look down to get it. Can't imagine doing that in a race car.

If they want to make F1 cars more attractive they should start with F3 rules and just scale them up a bit. I'd go with 15% larger wings for Formula 2, 25% for Formula 1 and one flip up or chimney per sidepod only. Then I'd keep F3 engine rules, set F2 engine rules as 3.2L 6 Cylinder production block/racing head through a 30mm air restrictor and F1 engine rules at 3L naturally aspirated reciprocating but free design

He was 45 in this picture, died in 1953 in the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico when his Lancia jumped the road and hit a lamppost. He was leading the race, BTW. One more thing, they have his name as Felice, not Felipe.

Very cool photos. I did find this, in a questionable translation from the German:
There were no Photoshop or other Fototricks involved. In fact, in 1970, Rolf Stommelen took a Brabham Formula 2 racing car for a caravan around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife at speeds of over 200 km / h . The caravan manufacturer wanted to show the goodness of its products and, of course, to put on something which the specialist press, like the ADAC Motorwelt, could report.
Plenty of downforce on the camper. Not sure it was needed, however. :gomer:

Magnesium-bodied Porsche 645, probably melted the 300SL next to it. There's an amazing shot of von Frankenberg falling gracefully out of the cockpit into some soft acacia bushes as the car tumbled, bit too much to want to post. Minor injuries, he was racing again within the year :saywhat:

His father became a War Correspondent for Motor Cycling Magazine and volunteered to go to Europe with the intention of finding his young son in February 1945. The meeting happened in Udem in the Netherlands, not far from Kleve, just before the Scots Grey crossed the German border and the Battle of the Reichswald.
