Raiders and Chargers making plans to move to Carson, CA located between Compton and Long Beach.
AFC West rivals, the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders, both frustrated with their home-city stadium situations, have decided to join forces on a Los Angeles stadium bid in case things don't work out in their current digs, according to an incredible report from the Los Angeles Times' Sam Farmer.
The two teams issued a joint statement to The Times:
"We are pursuing this stadium option in Carson for one straightforward reason: If we cannot find a permanent solution in our home markets, we have no alternative but to preserve other options to guarantee the future economic viability of our franchises.”

Yeah, I saw that last night and almost posted it, but NASCAB took priority....especially with the Princess losing it post-race. :gomer: Anyway, I'm amazed that SD built Petco Park for a crappy MLB team, but can't find a way to fund an NFL stadium that should clearly host a Super Bowl every 5 years or so. LA goes 20 years w/o an NFL team, and may now have two. :saywhat:

Yes, that's been threatened as well. The Rams owner wants major changes to Raymond James Stadium or is threatening to move the team back to LA. This is going to be fun to watch. :gomer: Meanwhile, the Clowns are fiddling while Rome burns with a new logo.

Why does the Rams owner care about Tampa's stadium? I'm lost
Rams play in Edward Jones Dome.....Ed....Raymond....I guess Dando gets confused.
St. Louis, and the state of Missouri are working on a new stadium on the banks of the Mississippi, two blocks north of the Ed. In the financing and land acquisition stage.
There's no way Oakland builds the Raiders a new stadium. Oakland's already lost the Warriors to San Francisco over the issue of a new arena.
Plus, they're still paying off the debt from moving the Raiders back in 1995.
If they do end up sharing a stadium in LA, there is talk about dropping either the Raiders or the Chargers from the AFC west and replacing them with an NFC west team, maybe Seattle. That would destroy the Raiders' fan base. They love cursing the Broncos, Chargers, and Chiefs almost as much as they love cheering for the Raiders.

I have a friend who is an A's fan...he refers to Oakland as Detroit by the Bay. I've been by the stadium. It's a flipping dump in an area I wouldn't walk around in fill body armor. :saywhat:
If the Raiders move, they'll become the Los Angeles Raiders. But, I wonder if the NFL will keep calling the Chargers the San Diego Chargers. The 49ers are still the San Francisco 49ers even though they play closer to San Jose. It would be a way to separate the teams and appease the local Chargers fans.

Does Los Angeles care any more about NFL football than when the Rams or Raiders left? I know it's a huge TV market but do they really want two teams splitting time in a half-empty stadium?

My sense is LA is a lousy sports town. USC captures everyone's football imagination and people only root for the other sports teams if they are hot or chic. Plus they get to watch the best games, not the local football games.
But it is a huge market. They ought to be able to support a team or two

Well, it was nice while it lasted.
49ers just lost Frank Gore (RB), Justin Smith (DE), Patrick Willis (LB), Mike Iupati (G), and Michael Crabtree (WR).
Last year their record was 8-8.
Looking at next year, they MIGHT go 7-9. Seems optimistic, though.

Willis only played in 6 games last year. Torrey Smith for Crabtree. Gore is 32, need a replacement anyway. I'd be most concerned about Kaepernick's "regression" and Harbaugh's departure.

I can't believe the Bradford for Foles trade. How did the Rams also get a 2nd round pick? I don't know what Chip Kelly is doing.
On day 2 of free agency, do the Patriots have the worst defense in the AFC East?
Wilfork, Revis and Browner gone. I feel bad for McCourty. He is not a $9.5M/yr safety. His best attribute is he doesn't mess up. That kind of money is playmaker money, and he hasn't been that since his rookie year playing cornerback (9 INTs). Now as the secondary is shredded with the likes of guys who were constantly benched at various times in 2014, everyone is going to look toward the guy who's getting paid way too much and take their anger out on him.
I don't know what Chip Kelly is doing.

Yeah, I'm thrilled to have Hawk coming home to Ohio. He seems like a perfect solution for the Bengal's depth problem at linebacker. Yes, Hawk is on the tail end of his career but it seems like he's been dogged by being branded a disappointment in Green Bay. The stats suggest that he still has some gas in the tank. The Bengals got Hawk for less than $2 million a year for two years where the Jaguars are paying $4 million a year for former Bengals backup Dan Skuta.

Sanchez? He has a proven track record. Is Vick still with the Jets?
If you asked the media after week 4 last season, it would be Jimmy Garoppolo, Tom Brady was finished. So maybe him or Osweiler in terms of potential, but you don't really know for sure.
Be a good exercise to predict the record of a team with the starter and backup.

49ers’ Chris Borland, Citing Safety, Is Latest to Retire Early From NFL
It is an off-season like no other in the National Football League. Young players, with many games and millions of dollars ahead of them, are walking away from the country’s most popular sport.
Linebacker Chris Borland of the San Francisco 49ers, one of the top rookies in the NFL last season, is the latest case yet, and perhaps the most noteworthy. He said Monday that he was leaving football because of concerns about his safety.

Nada. He's one of 4 to retire under 30 this past week.
But he's the one who is sparking this topic. The rest:
Jake Locker: 26, 4 seasons, had his replacement drafted in 2014 and benched, never played/started a full season, retired because he didn't have the passion to play, made $millions, he was a free agent and retired the day free agency opened
Patrick Willis: 30, 8 seasons, possible HOF'er, retiring because of foot injuries that he has dealt with since college, made $millions
Jason Worilds: 27, 5 seasons, made $millions, he said he's retiring for other opportunities
This is the same league that says the average career is only 3.5 years and the phrase "the wrong side of 30" is commonplace.
So 1 player retired for fear of concussions without making $millions. I stand by it's 1 guy.

What's the equivalent to that in the NFL? A rookie of the year doing that? So Odell Beckham, Jr or Aaron Donald (I didn't recognize the name).
So as I said, 1 guy. No doubt the level of maturity to make that decision and walk away from $millions is remarkable. I don't see the value of the roster spot changing. It's an entirely personal decision and that spot is in no less demand today (just as Hamilton's wouldn't be in F1 had he retired).
From a risk/reward standpoint it seems foolish to me to risk your health through college and then quit before you can reap the rewards when the risk is probably lower than it's ever been. And he says he wants to be a sports agent. So he won't risk his health for millions of dollars, but you can risk yours and he'll take 10% of your millions of dollars.

Sorry to interrupt the important uniform fashion discussions. Hernandez found GUILTY! I am surprised since they had no murder weapon and no eye witness testimony. My faith in juries could be restored.

His lawyer said Hernandez witnessed the murder during closing. I think that made the conclusion easier to get at.

It still took 6 days to come up with a verdict. Roger Cossack on E$PN was somewhat surprised at the verdict.
AP reinstated. Will he play for the Vikes again?

I'm not surprised. Listening to the jury, it seems like they believe he did it combining everything together. The defense really didn't give them much of an alternative. They spend what, less than 1 week on his defense while the prosecution spent 2+ months. It was all circumstantial from my view.

That's the $13M question, isn't it? Child abuser, $13M salary, player scorned. Plays, sits out or gets traded seem like the options. I don't think the Vikings cut him. I think they trade him in a heartbeat if they get good compensation.

Indeed the case was absent a witness and a weapon.

Oh, he won't cut. From what I've heard/read, the cap hit huge if they did. He has three years remaining on his contract for $13 m, $15 m and $18 m.

The cap hit is the same if they trade him though.

Yes, but they would get something in return. Players, pick(s), $$$....

I'm just saying trade/cut, cap consequence is the same, so that's not preventing them from cutting him. They'd obviously prefer to get compensation instead.
Oh my...

The Philadelphia Eagles plan to bring in quarterback Tim Tebow and sign him Monday as they begin their offseason program, FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer reports.
Not sure which is nuttier...Phlyers, Iggles, or Phils.

I love that FOX Sports scooped ESPN when Tebow works for them. Then (as usual), they write their own articles and don't acknowledge Glazer.
Screwed again... :irked:

I figured you were complaining about the Lewis extension.
Bah! SoS is what it is. They just need to go out and win the division. If they can't beat good teams during the regular season there's not much hope they'll get off the schneid and win a playoff game.

Marv was extended? :gomer: :irked: I'm numb to that shizz. :saywhat: Looks on the bright side...Clowns and what's left of the Stealers in the AFC North. But how many seasons have the Who Deys been saddled with one of the more difficult SoS the past 5 years or so? And of course I love the #14 pick (sic) to begin the article. :\
Could be interesting next week. Hmmm....

I grew up watching shows like The Brady Bunch and Eight is Enough, but the Browns?

This could be fun tonight. Multiple teams contacting the Titans about #2....Eagles, Browns? Schefty talking this AM about Bradford to the Browns so the Iggles can use the Browns' picks to move up to #2. Rivers apparently not in play any longer.

The Browns apparently weren't content with just wasting every high pick on a bust - now they're trading away all their other picks for the privilege? Maybe they could trade for Herschel Walker, too.

As noted in a previous post, the Browns and the draft == the definition of stupidity/insanity
As I mentioned, they make Mike Brown look like a genius (Wile E. Coyote genius). ;) They have the Johnny Football issue, traded for McCown, and now perhaps Bradford or Mariota? :saywhat: BTW, Hoying was their first QB to throw for 300 yards in consecutive games since Brian Sipe in 1983.
Iggles and Mariota rumors:
