After 12 years of bitter rivalry that confused fans, promoted apathy and nearly buried the sport, Champ Car agreed to cease operations, giving the surviving IRL the opportunity to rebuild open-wheel's lost prestige.
An opportunity that's been thoroughly squandered, shot in the back of the head, hanged, buried, then dug back up and shot again. :tony:

. . . shot in the back of the head, hanged, buried, then dug back up and shot again. :tony:
When you put it that way you make it sound like the Rasputin Racing League.
An opportunity that's been thoroughly squandered, shot in the back of the head, hanged, buried, then dug back up and shot again. :tony:

...And it suggests that if markets that make the cut in the first couple of years of American open-wheel racing's brave new world don't perform, there will be a ready list of candidates to replace them...

I saw that article was "updated" 2/22/08. IIRC, that was before the economy collapsed. I guess if we hadn't had The Great Recession then all that dreamin' would have come true.
BTW, this is written without the aid of mood-altering substances.
