View Full Version : Fight Night
And no, I don't mean the Royals/ChiSox from last night. :gomer: :D
So who's going to pony up the $$$ for the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight next Sat night? I lost my zeal for boxing years ago. Last fight I remember really watching was the Tyson/Holyfield bite fight. Last fight I paid to watch was Douglas/Holyfield (post Tyson/Douglas), which lasted all of three rounds. Otherwise I just watch SC for round-by-round scoring updates if I care at all. The buzz over the matchup is intriguing.

EDIT: $100 ppv is ...$200m ea. for the fighters. Jeebus...

Hoping Mayweather gets stomped, but I don't think that's what will happen.
I'll settle for a lighting rig falling on Justin Bieber.

That's harsh, mang. Maybe Biebs and Johnny Football. :gomer:
and a Kardashian? Can we get them all in the same area?

Perhaps with Mrs. Jenner. :gomer: Can we get an opening card with a Kardy vs. Jenner cat fight? :D
Please clarify. Which Mrs. Jenner? The one who spawned the clan, or the Mr(s) Jenner who is a work in progress?

Three way (as a follow up on the Cincy chili dscussion). :gomer: Sorry, should have stated the Mrs. Jenners. ;)
The BIG interview is tonight, BTW.

Speaking of Bruce Jenner, anyone remember when he was racing cars? I recall seeing him at either Mid-Ohio or Cleveland and he either had a tire seriously going down or actually shredding and he appeared to not know it since he just stayed out there.

Absolutely. He was a teammate to Scott Pruett for Jack Roush in IMSA GTO back in the '80s. He was good enough to hold up his end of a couple of endurance race wins with Pruett.

He raced in Cbus, too.

I think that's where I lost most of my hearing watching those races from the LeVeque Tower parking garage. ;) A different kind of racing happens down Spring Street these days. :saywhat:
There also was this guy named Hobbs who raced here as well. He owned a BMW dealership on W. Broad Street that failed. I think he also owned the first Inifinity dealership here in Dublin that also failed, but was bought out and has been successful ever since.
Yeah, I'm showing my 48 years. :)

If you're thinking about a last minute trip to Vegas this weekend, be prepared to be a little spendy.

That's whats going on. :saywhat:
I'm going to a wine event at the Mirage Saturday night. Made my arrangements back in the beginning of March and couldn't figure out why The Venetian showed completely full. Palazzo wanted over $800 a night. Ending up booking at Paris but still for way more then I'm used to paying. Dinner reservations will probably be impossible.

Not to mention that some horsies are running earlier in the day and NHL/NBA playoffs are happening, which adds to the insanity at the sportsbooks. And there's a ton of tradeshows in Vegas, too.
The only hotels in Vegas that can show the fights are the MGM ones. Everyone else is SOL.

It is the first fight in ages that has any real meaning and it should have happened five years ago. I may watch it if I can get about ten guys to pitch in. It should be good.
I like boxing when it is done right as a sport. I've tried to watch MME but I just get queezy.

I grew up on The Rumble in the Jungle, The Thriller in Manilla, Ali/Spinks, and Tyson, etc. And I love the Rocky movies and Raging Bull. I have no interest in this fight. I might watch the scorecard updates on SC. Mayweather's past troubles me as well. Dude should be in prison. Period. :saywhat: :irked:

Article in the LA Times today about actors vying for the closest seats. It begins "It was easy to say yes to Robert DeNiro." Also Clint Eastwood, Ben Affleck. Didn't read further than that. I couldn't get the Raging Bull reference out of my mind.
Good news for KLang's weekend in Vega$. ;)
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/12799176/ticket-prices-starting-fall-floyd-mayweather-manny-pacquiao-fight
Boxing fans who can make their way to Las Vegas might actually be able to buy a ticket to the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao for close to face value come Saturday night.
The roughly 500 tickets released to the public sold out within minutes last week, but the resale market -- minus an initial blip after tickets were committed to the promoters, sponsors and high rollers -- has started to fall.

Best comment evah from a high school buddy of mine. "Oceans 14. Two guys walk into a Las Vegas casino and steal $200 million in front of a live TV audience." :D
Mayfield tweeted that is ready to fight again in a year once Packy recovers from surgery. So I thought to myself...fight again. You didn't fight the first time. :gomer: That was a glorfied Dancing with the Stars. :saywhat: Boxing dead. Period.
According to Mike & Mike thia AM, there 5.6M views for the fight. @ $100 a pop, that's over $500M.
