Series boss Mark Miles promised changes would be forthcoming after the Fontana oval race where members of the IndyCar paddock spoke out against the rules that produced 500 harrowing miles of racing, and with further comments criticizing the short IndyCar schedule and other aspects of the series, a new rule has been produced that could be interpreted as a gag order.
Rule 9.3.8, Detrimental Competitor Conduct, states:
Competitors must be respectful, professional, fair and courteous to others. At all times, Competitors must not, attempt to, or engage in conduct or statements that in the judgment of INDYCAR:
a) Threatens or denigrates any Official, fellow Competitor or the INDYCAR brand;
b) Calls into question the integrity or legitimacy of the Rules or their application, construction or interpretation;
c) Denigrates the IndyCar Series racing schedule or Event(s);
d) Threatens or denigrates any INDYCAR business relationship, including those with sponsors or broadcasters;
e) Otherwise threatens the integrity, reputation or public confidence of the sport, INDYCAR, or IndyCar Series.

Dollars to donuts that the first fine for "actions detrimental to Indycar racing" will be larger than Power's fine for shoving the safety crew member.
And really, using the word denigrate 3x in the rules is a bit much. If they're going to go all SAT-word on us, then use some other synonyms. Otherwise, they sound like they just found a new word and are so excited to use it and show how worldly and smartypants they are.

I had a long rant typed up here, but it's just not worth the effort. It's much shorter to just point out that this rule is complete and utter ******** and be done with it.
Be careful...you don't want to be the first to be fined for 'Conduct Detrimental to INDYCAR' :)

It has "grate" in it. Force of habit. :tony:
It seems a waste of time to even state how stupid or pathetic they are at this point. Like walking around and telling people that the sun is hot.

"Threatens or denigrates the Indycar brand"?
Does saying cow dung smells make it more smelly?
Do they even know what their brand is? I doubt it and I doubt they could apply such a vague rule in any even-handed and transparent way. What, if a driver isn't enthusiastic enough with the milk/champaign he/she gets a fine?

Just saw how Fox Sports is reporting it: http://www.foxsports.com/motor/story/indycar-creates-conduct-code-to-limit-competitor-criticism-072215
Instead of being able to promote such a thrilling spectacle, IndyCar officials were instead fending off contentious comments from Team Penske President Tim Cindric, defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion Will Power, 2004 IndyCar champion and 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan and this year's Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya, among others.
And rather than listen to them they listened to Brian France, the guy whose family owns the track, and surely wants only to put on a "thrilling show".
FOXSports.com learned that a few days after that event, Hulman & Company CEO Mark Miles - the ultimate authority of IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - received an unsolicited phone call from NASCAR Chairman Brian France. When asked about that call, Miles would not give details of what was discussed between the head of IndyCar and the man who is in charge of NASCAR, but a source told FOXSports.com that France offered a few suggestions to help rally the troops and help silence some of the criticism.
