RIP Yogi. One of the great ones.
Great, great, great ones. I would love to hear Uncle Vin spin some yarn tonight over this loss. :)
EDIT: I tweeted to Uncle Vin for a feed. :finger crossed:

Dang.
Perhaps the greatest of Yankees. Sadly, perhaps his greatest feat was not getting ten rings but sticking it to madman Steinbrenner for 14 years for firing him after only 16 games.
That snub helped George learn enough humility to let people smarter than him to really run the team and return them to greatness. Another great Yankee, Jeter, helped convince Yogi that it was time for him to return to the stadium.

I would actually wear an NYY hat today. :)

Considering just his teammates, that is high praise. Some of the teams he was on were the best ever in baseball.

A great Obit at the NY Times, and some great pictures as well. I don't think I appreciated how good of a player he was.
Way back when...when the NYY had their AAA team in Cbus...his son Dale played here at 3B. The apple far from the tree. ;)
His niece owns the house he grew up in on The Hill, the Italian neighborhood here in St. Louis. There has been a parade of people going past the house today, leaving flowers, signs, trinkets, etc.
Remember when...

I read yesterday that 50 years after that he gave President Obama a picture of that that he had autographed and he signed it “Dear Mr. President, He was out!"
Kudos to Danny Baseball for wearing #8 last night.

He lived a few blocks over from me in Montclair. Nice enough but just another kid in the neighborhood. His biggest noise in the Majors was getting caught up in a coke scandal.
Oh and yes the great Jackie WAS out :)

Moreover I think his Yankee greatness is defined by spending his entire career as a Yank, his post season play, the fan's love for him, and his lifelong commitment to the team including telling an idiot owner to stuff it because the owner thought he was more important than the franchise and knew when, for the good of the franchise, it was time to come back.
Even DiMaggio pretty much divorced himself from the team once he realized he could make more money NOT playing for the team and retired.

I had the pleasure of listening to Jeremy Schapp a few nights ago on my way back home from visiting the DDs. (Man that apple did not fall far from the tree) Anyway, he had Kelly Tripucka on the show. He discussed 'Driving Miss Daisy' about his friendship with Lawerence Peter Berra. He was driving Yogi to his father's golf tournament in MT, Yogi calling out directions (pre-GPS), and Kelly said 'we're coming to a fork in the road, which way?' Yogi replied, 'Take it.' :)
