RIP Muhammad.
Wow, the NY Times is in full "the President's dead" coverage mode. The obit I ran out on 8 1/5 by 11 paper runs 14 page, which is just huge for them, NY Magazine feature story type huge, and they currently have 7 other links on their home page for him to stories, opinion pieces and the like.
Ali was larger than life both inside and outside the ring.

Crawl on ESPN last night said that he would be on the front cover of Sports Illustrated this week for the 40th (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) time.
A week ago TravelGuy and I were in Louisville and spent quite some time in his museum there. I remember most of what they covered so the thing that surprised me the most was how small a boxing ring actually is. They also had some film of his earlier years with the lightening fast footwork and punching ability.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The three years he lost objecting to the draft cost him the peak of his career, but he stood his ground on principle.

That picture was taken (with a series of other pictures of them together) 9 days after the Beatles American TV debut on Ed Sullivan and one week before Ali beat Liston.

As I said elsewhere had that picture included the Mercury 7 astronauts it would have defined my youth. On second thought, throw in Parnelli, also.

And now Kimbo Slice. Great fighters go in threes. Hopefully Gerry Cooney isn't next.
