At least Blount didn't sucker punch anyone this time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIp3vaAyffI
No, Blount has graduated to eye gouging.

But the good news is that they picked up the flag because it wasn't a face mask. :shakehead:
The 49ers play the Patriots on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Maybe winning by a huge margin in good weather will satisfy them, and they won't have to assault anyone. :p
Bah. You guys disappoint. Brady pumped at Bennett. When Burfict and Jones moved to make a play on that action Brady reloaded and threw it right over their heads to Amendola. They think they're about to make a play on the receiver. Heck, even Bennett thinks he's about to get the ball. After all of that he hit the guy at thigh level and fell down into his knee. Even Vontez Burfict can't defy the laws of physics.
Meanwhile taunting is supposed to be a point of emphasis this season but the NFL promotes it on their web site when it's a star player doing the taunting.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000721735/article/unstoppable-rob-gronkowski-taunts-bengals?campaign=tw-articleshare
Gronk repeatedly taunted injured players on the ground and the story reads like that's justified because Adam Jones went for his legs like every small corner must do if they want to have any hope of getting him down.
I'm trying not to be a homer, or perceived as one. As I stated, it was borderline/questionable. And note no flag. It kills me that there are fines and suspensions for plays w/o a flag, yet no discipline for the refs. And on the Blount eye poke, the FJ is right there. WTF?!? Tez and Jones have the spotlight them big time. Hasselbeck (Tim) was on R&K today calling for a bigger suspension than the one for the hit on Brown. :shakehead: And yes, Gronk that is celebrated for some reason. The NFL needs to get its head out of its arse. :irked:

Sunday night was the most pathetic game I think I've ever watched between two "good" teams. Ugh. Ratings by the end of that game had to be around 2.0.

Let me see if I got this straight. Allegedly deflating game balls gets you four games, beating your wife gets you one and a crackback block on a defenseless player that sends him to the hospital only gets you 15 yards?
The NFL has a problem and it's not declining TV ratings or social media. It's nonsense like this.

The 49ers have avoided a TV blackout this season due to their strong preseason ticket sales. Even when the stadium is empty, like yesterday, it's a "sellout".

Chip Kelly's postgame interview was an embarrassing impersonation of Rainman, and the players are delusional. After the game, linebacker Aaron Lynch said:

EVERY YEAR the Broncos wear their blue alternate.... against a team whose primary color is blue. Cowboys, Colts, Patriots, Texans. Perhaps I'm too uniform-centric but why not wear blue against the Chiefs?
Not limited to Denver. Why would the Bengals waste those clearly superior orange jerseys against another team that wears orange? Wear them against Pittsburgh or Baltimore!
News today is that the 49ers have written off the season and are parting out the team. Every talented player must go before the trade deadline. No reasonable offer will be refused.

Yer suggesting the 9ers have talent? :gomer: ;) They already screwed up by defeating the Lambs. Their only hope for #1 is that the Clowns strike gold this weekend against the J-E-T-S. And quite frankly, there isn't a big time #1 pick for this next draft.

My guess is the 49ers have finally decided to draft a QB next year, and they are hoping to stockpile 1st round picks to make sure they get one.

But there just isn't a stud like Luck for the next draft. Watson or Jackson perhaps, but I just don't see them turning heads. YMMV. They almost need to do what the Clowns did and dump everything for the extra picks. Even then, the proof will be in the pudding considering the pathetic drafts the Clowns have had. Joe Thomas has been pretty much it for the past decade, and they need to move him, but he doesn't want to go.

Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles is back on the disabled list after 2 games. He missed almost all of last year with knee surgery. After experiencing pain in his knees his doctor decided to do exploratory surgery thinking there might be more damage. Sports radio thinks that Charles may have played his last game for the Chiefs. This is due to money considerations. Jamaal Charles signed a 2 year, $18,100,000 contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, including $8,300,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $9,050,000. In 2016, Charles will earn a base salary of $2,750,000, a roster bonus of $2,312,500 and a workout bonus of $250,000. With Charles being unable to play for almost 2 years the Chiefs are unlikely to take a chance with Charles if he is able to play again.
This means that some other NFL team might take a chance and sign him.

There's some symmetry in Blount having 3 rushing TDs and NE has 1st and Goal at the 2 against Seattle and didn't run him 4 times.
Awesome that the Bingles found yet another way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. 1st and goal from the 8, and couldn't punch it in. :saywhat: And where the Red Rifle was throwng the ball the INT is mind boggling. :shakehead: Luckily Manning returned the favor on the next play. And all I heard all night was that NYG doesn't. Check the stats. :irked: This bunch has so many holes to fill...OL, DL, DBs
I've never so many position groups collapse with so little change in personnel.
I've never so many position groups collapse with so little change in personnel.
We've got some aging cats. Whit (35), Peko (31), Dansby (35), Jones (33), and Rey can't stay/get onto the field. I read an article the last week or so that Peko's production has dropped a ton. Rifle had the longest run. Take away his 15-yard scamper, and they had 63 yards and <3 yards/carry. :shakehead: And without Eifert's big catch, the passing stats were brutal (133 yards). Two things I also noted...total plays 72 to 55 and 3rd down efficiency (or lack of) 2 of 11. I noticed when the boys in the booth were chattering coming out of halftime, the stats display behind them was 41 to 22 for total plays. They totally missed that key stat. :saywhat: Oh, and 9 penalties for 60 yards...several were drive killers. :\ I was surprised that NGY only had 3 sacks, but they all came on crucial drives i the 4th it seemed like he was a human pinata...he also had 3 passes knocked down. I honestly only see 3 Ws the rest of the way, and the Bills are questionable. Ravens twice, Stealers, and Texans.
I was thinking about this on the last NYG dive:

It really comes down to the offensive line. How they've become so horrible this year with just one real personnel change is a mystery - can't run the ball, can't protect the quarterback.
At least Boyd showed in the first half but if they're without Green for the rest of the season they may not win another game.
Yeah, and sad to say but I think that should be it for Nugent's career. A lot of kickers have missed extra points lately but how many have missed three of their last six?

Agreed that the play Green got hurt on looked harmless. It wasn't like the Robert Woods injury where you could see his knee bent 6 ways to Sunday. Our local news said hammy injury for Green, but they won't know more until an MRI today.
Outstanding job by the Fox camera guy to catch Rob Ryan getting trapped in his utility belt and almost losing his slacks while celebrating the win. That will make a blooper reel or gif meme somewhere.

The Eagles instantly becoming a more legitimate team the moment Chip Kelly left should tell the 49ers all they need to know - take the hit, cut bait, find a good coach and rebuild for 3-4 years. Don't let Chip ransack the team further.
Unfortunately, they are the type of org to give McDaniels another shot.
Texas got that First Down twice. Those refs are blind.
A little good news on Green. His injury was a strain, not a tear. Hamstring injuries are still pretty touch and go so there's no telling when he'll be back. I don't know how much good it will do the Bengals at this point but hopefully Green will get the 40 yards he needs to make a thousand.

The Jets finished 10-6 last year and Andrew Luck, so it wasn't supposed to be horrible. MNF never gets marquee games since flex scheduling was added. I don't know what happened with negotiations, but Disney blew it by keeping MNF on ESPN instead of trying to get SNF on ABC from ESPN. They pay the most and get the least from the league. They could never get Manning-Brady. Instead it alternated between CBS and SNF.

They went 3-3 in the division. The lost to Buffalo twice. I thought they'd get better and make the playoffs under Bowles' second year. Can't disagree on Bears.
On ratings, they're down almost universally for the NFL. Being up is the anomaly. It's hard to argue it's the product. There's always good and bad games. On that topic, I see a lot of simple speculation on why that is. I don't think they'll be right on any of them. I think the drop is permanent. They are losing their most die hard fans slowly. The ones who built up fantasy and the viewership. The media landscape is changing. So you have this generation that built them up to these heights becoming increasingly busy. They don't realize that as soon as that obsession with all year NFL starts to wane, it's the start of losing people. There's now a generation of people who don't even have a TV, not because they don't like TV, but because they don't need one. The same thing that makes the NFL the ultimate live programming also makes it difficult for people without TVs to watch.
I have watched the least number of NFL this year in the last ~20 years. Why? First, I didn't want to pay $300+ for NFLST. DirecTV has jacked up programming costs so much over the last 10 years that I've dropped down 2 tiers and still pay +$30/month more. They've usually given me NFLST for real cheap or free and would not this year. So no Patriots for me most weeks. (I tried web streams, but they are horrible.) So now that my primary game is out. No red zone either. So I usually get the Chiefs/Broncos/Cowboys now. Not even the "signature" game of the week. It's been fascinating to me how quickly I went from seeing every Pats game from 2004-2015 seasons (when I got DirecTV). I thought I'd cave and order NFLST, but didn't. And I so easily put the time not watching football towards other stuff. I don't even have a family, so it must be even easier for parents of young children to move on from the NFL.
That's my $0.02.
(I get Pats-Ravens on MNF in Week 14 and probably Pats-Broncos in Week 15).
I getcha on the time commitment...'tis why I quit golfing regularly. The NFL boxed themselves in with DTV/AT&T/NFLST. Lack of understanding their fan base sprawl. Parental units are Bengals and Bears fans in Hilton Head, and get noting other than SNF or MNF. :\ And they can't do DTV due to tree removal restrictions (quite strict).
I'm waiting for the NFL to try selling personal seat licenses for my couch cushions.

I'm hopeful they will copy what the NBA started this year with team specific packages. I'd just prefer PPV on DirecTV at $10-$20 a game. FYI, they have an NFLST online package for people in your parent's situation. They also have a package for students.

One can hope, but I don't see it happening due to the limited schedule, and that they have ABC/E$PN, DTV/AT&T/NFLST, CBS, Fox, NBC roped into contracts. NFLST exclusive just :irked:s me. And anything AT&T is a no go. :\

I think the lawsuits have affected the NHL/NBA in how they handle the packages. Suits have been filed against the NFLST package, so we'll see if they settle in a similar manner vs risking a ruling/precedent.

I don't wish that shizz on anyone. It's debilitating to the nth degree. My mom has a disc issue, and wears a back brace. I have sciatic issues, and I have to watch how I lift stuff. When I put my DDs on my shoulders (piggy back), I'm in pain for days.
Too many athletic careers have ended way too early due to back issues. See the recent article about Steve Kerr turning to pot to ease the pain. Back issues pretty much ended Larry Bird's career as well. tOSU's men's coach Thad Matta lost use of his right foot after back surgery, and sits on a 'bar' stool now. :( And then there is Tiger Woods. :\

IMHO, this play reminded me of The Holy Roller...

NFL announces a new bowl game....Ineptitude Bowl.

No worries, the Clowns are still working on 0-20. :D
EDIT: it will feature a 4-team playoff with the Bears, 9ers, Clowns, and a possible play-in game between the Jags and Jets ahead of the Pro Bowl. :gomer:
And Nugent missed another PAT?!? :saywhat: 4 in two or three games? :irked:

Yeah, you should never be able to end a game by deliberately breaking the rules - that's the principle behind untimed downs on defensive fouls. It should apply here as well. Seems like you could just add fouls by the offense on fourth down to the circumstances that trigger untimed downs.

Sumthin' has to change. This was a clear violation of the spirit of the rule. Not that it would have changed the outcome, but dang it, man. :irked:
re: GMen vs. Stealers....WTF?!? Barely over 200 yards of O by the GMen, but the Stealers with over 100 yards of penalties...including a stupid PI with 30 seconds left and up by 17. :saywhat: Ouch. :irked:

The snow was pretty.
Chip Kelly's dad passed away on Friday, so I'll let the 49ers go in peace this week.

Once again, everyone is just copying the 49ers.
They did this weeks before the Ravens in a game against the Saints. Nobody cared then.

To paraphrase the adage about a tree in forest...if the 9ers play a game, and no one gives a hoot, does it really matter? :gomer: ;)
While I applaud the No Fun League for allowing the charity cleats, I scratch my head considering they denied Pizzaman Manning from wearing black shoes to honor Unitas. :shakehead:

And then Newton sits for the first 'series' (one play) for not wearing a flipping tie. GMAFB! :irked: One wonders if they Panthers were actually in contention if they would have taken that action. :shakehead:

Some really cool non-profits (hopefully) getting some additional exposure from the charity cleats (and that's just what I'm seeing from the Bills.) But this isn't going to repair the league's image overnight.
Speaking of the Bills, I'd rather they just poop the bed at the start of the game rather than give me hope...and then poop the bed. And to think, Buffalo could have had Khalil Mack but took Sammy Watkins instead.

But this is a different situation, at least they had another play, got the penalty yardage and still got a score. If the offense had gone for a touchdown with time running out and the defense had deliberately held again they would have gotten an untimed down.
In the Raven's situation there was no recourse in the rules at all. You deliberately violate the rules and end the game. The "palpably unfair act" rule has always been there. The NFL should add an optional "put time on the clock" to the penalty and instruct the officials to call it in this situation.
