Nice to meet many of you in Cleveland, the weekend confirms the Cleveland race is one of the best! Hopefully in the future time will allow to take a few down with some of you, maybe at Elkhart.
Anyone else hear through Vassers team that Microsoft maybe be signing on in the near future. My discussions this weekend indicate that it is close and a high probability. This, along with the recent sponsor news on AR1 might support and would be awesome!;)
I would be happy to have Bill help fund my favorite sport. I wonder if this is one of the sponsorships that is rumored to be waiting for the dust to settle around CART's business future.
Check out WB's thread from about a month ago documenting the ASTJ presence at Microsoft Tech Ed.
I remember that thread...it would be nice to pick them up, financially they would be a stable sonsor at least. Hopefully the pieces to this puzzle come together well.

So Jimmy must have crashed to impress his new sponsors.
I dont think he crashed on purpose. Would it have been better if he mailed it in? I bet slinging that pig car around those bumps got kind of old, they only hope He has of winning is with some weirdo pit strategy and a ton O luck.

According to Mr. Vasser, he was forced to use a set of tires on his final stint which already had nearly 30 laps on them, and he pushed too hard trying to catch Tagliani. To be fair, under the circumstances he drove a solid race, with the exception of his overly ambitious move on Moreno.
Nonetheless, that was a good poke at Microsoft, Dr. Z. ;)
Reading this thread has left me wondering why Microsoft would feel the need to advertise. We will all soon be assimilated (http://www.theonion.com/onion3321/windows98.html) and Microsoft's competition will be no more. (http://www.theonion.com/onion3311/microsoftpatents.html)

I follow the video game industry (cause I'm a geek) and there is a tie in with CART that could revolve around MS's Xbox. Two weeks ago Sony (makers of the PlayStation 2 gaming console) announced with the FIA that Sony was the exclusive producers of any and all video games of the F1 series through 2006. With no F1 racers for the Xbox, why not some CART action? I think a black Xbox Champ Car would rock!
Microsoft produced a CART Sim a few years ago as well. They're getting some exposure to OW Racing this year as an associate on Ganassi's IRL car. (There's some ties with Target - which is pretty much exclusively Microsoft stuff at Headquarters. They also had TCGR outfitted with TabletPCs at Indy.)

Hope we can expect a followup of that crappy CART game Microsoft put out a few years ago.

Yeah, I never did get that game to work right. And the Microsoft support... well, if you've ever tried to get it, you know what I'm trying to say. A totally wasted $40 (or whatever it was).

Well, not to defend Microsoft and their crappy PC games, but their Xbox lineup is awesome and that is what any new CART game would be on. They must have hired a quality control department. ;)

I don't know very much about video games, but don't they already act as title sponsor for an import drag racing series? Not that that would preclude them from doing something with CART... just curious what your thoughts are, since you follow the industry.

I hadn't heard of that, but here is a press release mentioning that very thing among a few others.

Yeah, that's the one, racer2c. There are several sanctioning bodies in import racing, and I don't follow it enough to remember which is which.
And SOG, the name may sound odd, but the movie (and the racing series) has been very successful. It hypes street racing "culture" well enough that a LOT of kids seem to be into it. You just can't imagine how funny it is to see some kid who is about 95% hill-jack trying to act "street".
They've got the NOPI East Tennessee Race Wars at Bristol this weekend. I think that's a different division or series, but it's got some X-box sponsorship involvement too. I'm sure every little team shirt wearing bling-bling wannabe from this area will be there. If you guys are really curious, I'll be happy to drive out tomorrow afternoon (maybe just in time for the bikini contest finals ;) ).
It would be great to see one or two BIG companies come on board with CART. If a truly big name comes on board, I think it's more likely that some smaller ones will follow... just for the link.

Yes I can, you forget that I'm 20 years old and drive a Japanese sports car. It is funny as hell to see all these high school and college kids with the wings and body kits and stickers and 5" exhaust tips all over the Escorts, Probes, Cavaliers, Grand Ams, and Neons around here. There are a few Civics too, but most people in Parma hate foreign cars so the majority of the rice rockets are in fact American. Thankfully my car doesn't look fast (well, because it isn't ;) ) or else I'd have these morons tailgating me and swerving from lane to lane trying to get my attention. It's always funny watching when two race each other, its like the battle of the low self-esteems.
I know many of you around here think that we should be aiming to get these kids into CART, but trust me, it would be a bad move. There aren't enough of them to justify the aggravation and the damage to CART's image if they showed up. Just look at what happened to the Carlisle sport compact show. 200-300 arrests, so now they are cancelling it. A friend of mine was there, and the stuff he said was going on is beyond what I can talk about in this forum (but he is selling video footage, if anyone is interested! ).
