Track Question

Anyone know if you can bring food into a track? Specifically Monaco. I'm wondering if I should ask the ship to pack a lunch for me for the day I'm roasting (er, sitting) in the bleachers by the pool. I'm lazy to call F1 and try to pretend I speak French. Thanks.

Just have them pack one for you anyway. If the people at the gate won't let you bring it in, just step off to the side and stuff your whole lunch in your mouth before entering with a victorious look on your face. That's what I do.

While Chop456 gives Americans a bad name by V-ing up a paper plate and shoveling food down his throat right in front of the gate, let me give you a more dignified answer. Yes you can bring food into the circuit. They do not allow any glass though, but I think cans and plastic bottles are fine.

There's an F1 phone app that supposedly has some team radio transmissions along with race control messages and other features.

Thanks, DM. Yes, it was quite the trip. The F1 race was the first day of the cruise and then it was south to Elbe, Lerici (for Pisa) and lotsa Corsica. It was too windy (it's a sailing ship after all) to get to Sardinia so lots and lotsa Corsica. Then I spent two more days in Monte Carlo. Drove by the casino several times but never went it. Never had the proper attire.

As far as Grandstand O, it was a good choice. Bought the tickets through F1.com. You choose a grandstand and don't know where you'll be. That leaves out K, which could be good or awful. O is good no matter what although of course you want to be higher up. We were about 4 rows from the top. Could see the about half of the pits, a tiny bit of zoom, zoom on the straight, and the curves right in front of us.

What surprised me the most was the food and drink. 7 euro for a beer with the commemorative cup (about $8), refillable at 5 euro, 3 or 4 euro for a sandwich. 1.9 for a big bottle of water. About 1/3 of what it would cost at a local baseball game. Potties were clean and plentiful. Crowd was well mannered. Track is easy to get to. Grandstands are grandstands. My a$$ was paralyzed for about 2 days but it was worth it. :D Who wants to come next year???

I should add that I watched the race on TV when I got home. You definitely see more that way but I realized I had caught all the major action. On the good side, the efforts by Verstappen were much more dramatic in person. And the chap jumping from the plane with the Monegasque flag disappearing over the buildings added a certain je ne sais quoi.

It was really too bad that they didn't cover, at least on what was saved on my DVR, all the tributes to Niki Lauda. Many tributes from drivers, even Hamilton, whom I don't particularly like. They asked for a moment of silence pre-race and 200,000 people went SILENT. Absolutely silent, standing still, honoring Niki. It was very moving. And the boats in the harbor blowing their horns. I don't think I've ever heard that. What a din!
