Looks like both Toro Rosso err AlphaTauris are starting from the pit lane. Bottas stars from the back after winning the Sprint race. Anybody els think they should have allowed the teams 4 power units this year also...

Let's see what happens!

Rare long pit stop for the Red Bull team. Almost looked like a Mercedes stop for Bottas. Almost...

Congratulations to the McLaren Team. Great race - IMO - especially since the mantra was that it was going to be boring!

This one was fun.

Drama leading to Sochi had just been turned up to 10, possibly 11.

Lewis pulled the Senna move. It didn't work. As Martin Brundle said about his (winning) F3 campaign against Senna. He puts you in a position where you either have a crash or back out. If you back out he's got you mentally defeated. See from about 7:00 in the below video from Top Gear

Seems the Stewards were not in agreement with you. Max handed a 3-place grid penalty for the next race:

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.breaking-verstappen-handed-three-place-grid-drop-for-sochi-after-crash-with.1DxVWlOKHcI6R086WzbvWI.html

“The Stewards heard from the driver of car 33 (Max Verstappen), the driver of car 44 (Lewis Hamilton) and team representatives, reviewed the video evidence and determined that the driver of Car 33 was predominantly to blame for the collision with Car 44 at Turn 2,” said the stewards in a statement.

“Car 44 was exiting the pits. Car 33 was on the main straight. At the 50m board before Turn 1, Car 44 was significantly ahead of Car 33. Car 33 braked late and started to move alongside Car 44, although at no point in the sequence does Car 33 get any further forward than just behind the front wheel of Car 44.

“During the hearing the driver of Car 33 asserted that the cause of the incident was the driver of Car 44 opening the steering after Turn 1 and “squeezing” him to the apex of turn 2. The driver of Car 44 asserted that the driver of Car 33 attempted to pass very late and should have given up the corner either by backing off sooner, or by turning left behind the kerb.

“The Stewards observed on CCTV footage that the driver of Car 44 was driving an avoiding line, although his position caused Car 33 to go onto the kerb. But further, the Stewards observed that Car 33 was not at all alongside Car 44 until significantly into the entry into Turn 1.

“In the opinion of the Stewards, this manoeuvre was attempted too late for the driver of Car 33 to have “the right to racing room”. While Car 44 could have steered further from the kerb to avoid the incident, the Stewards determined that his position was reasonable and therefore find that the driver of Car 33 was predominantly to blame for the incident.

“In coming to the penalty the Stewards emphasise that they have only considered the incident itself and not the consequences thereof.”

I would propose that Max put them in the crash or back out situation.

No one really thought they would penalize Hamilton, did they? All snark aside, when you listened to Toto Wolff and Christian Horner in the post race interviews, it was pretty clear which way it would go. I didn't hear a hugely strong defense of Max from Christian.

Hamilton didn't sound right at all when he was interviewed. He sounded shell shocked and admitted to some neck pain. It's no surprise his neck hurts more now. All those types of injuries magnify after a few hours (speaking from experience). I have never been a fan but I do hope he'll be okay. That was pretty brutal.

DANIEL!!! LANDO!

MCLAREN!!!!

I'm so happy. That was so great. Let's not wait 8 years again.

By the way... your favorite driver leading a race somewhat unexpectedly is not a fun experience... it's terrible. Nerve-wracking. Whew. Fun when he finally got the flag.

Daniel Ricciardo: Driving Dale Earnhardt car will be 'pinch me' moment (https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/32212536/driving-dale-earnhardt-car-pinch-moment)

McLaren Racing boss Zak Brown, who has the original number three Wrangler-liveried coupe in his collection, promised Ricciardo back in March a test in the car if he stood on the podium this season.

I thought "the halo saved his life" talk was a bit over the top until I saw that. It wasn't the tire, it was Max's floor that was coming directly at the side of his head. Wow.

Lewis Hamilton says halo saved his life, surprised Max Verstappen didn't check on him (https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/32196837)

In the aftermath of the accident, Verstappen walked away from the wreckage as Hamilton tried to reverse his car out from underneath Verstappen's Red Bull.

Hamilton said he was surprised his rival did not come to check to see that he was OK.

Good thing for Max that the next race isn't Silverstone although I don't think he cares all that much.

I like Max, but his handling of that whole incident wasn't exactly his finest moment.

Holy Bobblehead Batman. I took the "saved his life" at face value but that video shows a lot more contact that I could see onscreen.

I was surprised also. A little more maturity would have had him stop, no matter how angry he was. Now that I read that Hamilton was trying to reverse, I soften a bit as you don't want to walk up to a lurching racecar but the quote at the end of that article was still a bit brutal.
