Was it the Lola the year when they stunk and practically everyone switched to Reynards? That was the 1997 CART Lola. I don't think it was a porpoising issue wit the Lola as much as it was their rush to get an F1 car completed. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MasterCard_Lola) e.g. simple lack of development effort
Thanks again to Steve for all the hard work!

I'm eager to find out which teams did aero work specifically to make the wake worse for following cars. Other than Red Bull, because of course they did. ;)

I'm eager to find out which teams did aero work specifically to make the wake worse for following cars. Other than Red Bull, because of course they did. ;)Believe it or not...they (Red Bull) don't focus on that as much as they might lead you to believe.
My company and Red Bull F1 both use the same CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software. Our mutual software vendor holds periodic educational webinars, and Red Bull invariably hosts 1-3 of these per year (they're popular, as you might imagine).
These webinars tend to be more informative than traditional PR events because all of us on the webinar are:
1) Customers of the same software vendor and
2) Basically a collection of highly technical people who are more inclined to share information
Anyway, Red Bull were asked once during a webinar how much effort they put into maximizing their own performance vs trying to create a detriment for following cars ('dirty air', etc.)
Their answer was that they were pretty much 110% focus forward concentrating on maximizing their own performance. They (claimed) they spent next to no time focusing on the detriment of others.
Now, this was a couple of years ago - and their focus may have changed. They may also claim different things publicly, but at the time (considering the environment) I was inclined to believe them.
YMMV.

And next week I'm registered for a webinar from Alteryx (analytics software) "How McLaren Racing Keeps Fans Loyal"
McLaren Racing fast-tracks data analytics in the race to accelerate (https://www.alteryx.com/customer-center/mclaren-racing-fast-tracks-data-analytics-in-the-race-to-accelerate)
Have noticed several firms hosting webinars that feature either celebrities or their clients. Another firm had Drew Brees once and Theo Epstein at another time on theirs. So I joined for each. Both were very interesting. A little about their sport and a little about the software service hosting it. Far greater reach than hosting a hospitality event at a race, and undoubtedly far cheaper.
I messed up embedding the link for Alfa Romeo content

And I don't just mean in the entertaining sense...for example we've had discussions on topics like 'best practices' that we (e.g. our company) has been able to implement ourselves.
Good stuff all around.
