Even made the regular news broadcast down here in NZ tonight. I did suggest to Mrs Kiwifan that it would be a great trip away but I just got "the look." ;)
It may have something to do with me saying how nice and friendly the young girls in the lifts were the last time we were in Vegas. How was I to know? :D

3.8 mile track. Longer than I expected... hope it's good racing. I really felt like a night race at Indy would have been better for racing than either Miami or Las Vegas, but clearly, the cornfields don't compete.

That is a REALLY short run to T1 from the start.
All of the pedestrian overpasses will be closed. Stands will line the track built on the walkways which are rather wide. Logistically this will be a mess to set up and tear down.

Probably because I see Long Beach getting set up and torn down, this was the first thing I thought.
FWIW a sim of the track. Long straights and for the most part flowing corners. This should be a very fast circuit. Lined with concrete :o

I was at the first GP at Indianapolis. The infield crowd paralyzed vehicular movement. I'm thinking that has something to do with it.
Wow. Down the strip? I'd have bet money that would never happen.
Close the pedestrian walkways and lock everyone inside the track? Seems like at least some of those giant walkways will be around corners and could be safe if screened off. What about emergency vehicle access when granny hits the jackpot and keels over at the slot machine?
This might be worth a trip to see sometime if there's such a thing as cheap seats. :D

I've already put a friend on notice that once tickets go on sale, that we should buy. Considering this may be a huge event and that I probably won't go to that many more races, I'm willing to look for better than cheap seats. But since Miami and COTA both sold out nearly immediately, I'm sure these tickets will command a very high premium. Hotels surrounding the track and within it may have packages, but I'll bet that requires a minimum stay, maybe 3 nights. If F1 nails this, and there is no reason to assume they won't, this could very well become one of the bigger/glitzier sporting events in the US and certainly on the F1 schedule. While it won't draw as many fans as the Indy 500 it may have much greater revenue attached to it. Look at the Miami race video I posted yesterday. That track is surrounded by hospitality and club seating. All of which yields greater revenue than grandstand seating. Vegas will double down on that. Corporate events to the max.

F1 owner Liberty Media to purchase Vegas land for $240m
https://racer.com/2022/05/06/f1-owner-liberty-media-to-purchase-vegas-land-for-240m/
“Liberty Media did enter an agreement to acquire 39 acres east of the Strip to lock in circuit design and capacity for the pit and paddock, among other hospitality and race support venues. I expect that transaction to close in the second quarter and the purchase price was $240m, funded by cash on hand at an F1 group level.”

Given that we now have a date, I spent a while looking at the beeooootiful diagram and an actual map of Las Vegas. It seems to me that it's flipped for their convenience. The High Roller Ferris Wheel is north of the Eiffel Tower, for example, and the strip is to the West of the Eiffel Tower in front of the Bellagio fountains, so be careful where you think the paddock and pits will be. Moving along, it's easy to see quite a bit of lesser-developed land by Kovali and Harmon so I'm supposing that's it.

News today from a US-based tour operator. I had asked if there were any news or did MGM have the whole thing sewed up.
"We don't have any details on the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix yet, I would anticipate having those details early in the new year."
F1 leaders plan general admission hospitality section for Las Vegas GP (https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Daily/Issues/2022/09/16/Facilities/Formula-One-Las-Vegas-Grand-Prix-Hospitality.aspx)
Liberty Media is planning to create a special general-admission hospitality section of the Las Vegas Grand Prix that will have “affordable” pricing for younger fans and a watch-party feel, according to event CEO Renee Wilm. Speaking at the AXS Sports Facilities & Franchises and Ticketing Symposium, Wilm said that tickets for the general-admission area will likely go on sale early next year. Her calling out an area where there will be cheaper seating is notable because social media lit up a few weeks ago after SBJ reported that MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle told analysts in an earnings call that hotel-and-event packages for the race could go for up to $100,000, sparking fears that only the wealthy will be able to afford tickets.

Talking of Vegas, F1 will soon be able to reveal its plans for its pit and paddock development in the city. It all seems quite impressive ad I am told the big push will be to promote the facilities as being the most technologically-advanced building in the world. What this means is not entirely clear at the moment but it is certain to include unprecedented levels of resource efficiency and intelligent features. This will be a useful promotional tool for the sport. I am told that it will not only be sustainable but will be so efficient that it will balance all emissions created during construction and even, perhaps, in the manufacturing of all materials required for the construction. It is all good for F1’s sustainability programmes, although until the sport counts the emissions produced by spectators on their way to and from the track, it is all a bit airy-fairy. From what I hear there will be a covered paddock, between the pit buildings and the team offices, and there will be bridges linking the two, so that VIPs can swan around without getting in the way as much as they currently do. The pit building will also feature a huge F1 logo, which will be flat on the roof, this will use dynamic digital illumination techniques to promote F1 day and night as it will visible from all planes going into and out of the airport. The facilities will include some form of permanent F1 exhibition space that will aim to draw visitors all through the year, helping to promote the sport and generate revenues at the same time.

Iconic Venue Plans $1B in Renovations Ahead of Vegas F1 Race
https://frontofficesports.com/iconic-venue-plans-1b-in-renovations-ahead-of-vegas-f1-race/
The Venetian, known for its replica canals and gondolas, is investing over $1 billion in renovations. It is already undertaking a huge project with Madison Square Garden Entertainment, which it aims to finish before F1’s Las Vegas Grand Prix in November 2023.
The Venetian is revamping its casino floor, restaurants, and entertainment areas, as well as spending $50 million on a beach day club.
The hotel company is a presenting partner of the Vegas Grand Prix, and the street track will pass the Venetian. The Venetian will offer suites and experiences connected to the race.
Race founding partner MGM Resorts plans to purchase $20 million–$25 million in F1 tickets and could offer packages around the event priced over $100,000.

Well, I suppose this is all good for the sport. But I'm not so sure about the fans. The real fans I mean. The ones who have followed and supported F1 for decades and who could go to a race for a few hundred dollars. It seems now that, in America at least, it's more geared to those who just want to attend a "happening" and are willing to pay tens of thousands, or even millions, to be a part of it. I'm reminded of that every time Martin Brundle stops someone on the grid and they don't even know who he is. I find that sad.
