View Full Version : Penske: One series and it will race in Canada
There will be one series and it will race on street courses in Canada, or so says Roger Penske.

Sorry, Roger. You left CART because your sponsors wanted to be at Indy. It seems that may have been a mistake if they really want to be in Toronto.
It's interesting that Roger continues to talk this way when there seems to be increasing confidence that a deal to keep CART around may be coming together. Could it be that there is Canadian money involved and Penske is trying to derail that? A Molstar interest perhaps?
Of course Roger's commentary has been greeted with great enthusiasm by those who still think there was something in that "vision" they bought. :)

I said this at Crapwagon.com also:
Sound a heck of a lot like CART as it is now and the Indy car of late, doesn't it!??! More proof that the "vision" was a cover up for the desire to control open wheelracing in North America.
I have news for Penske...... Canada "grew up" so to speak on Indy Car of late and the current CART product. They identify with these cars, not the normally aspirated obese looking slugs that they like to call race cars. Also Canadians identify strongly with road and street racing as they are CART and F1 fans. We have Mosport as a tradition from the Formula One days gone by. We also identify with PT which is the reason this site has formed. Keeping all of this in mind. Penske is delusional that they can slap those disgusting beasts on our street courses and have them go around a lot more slowly and that the fans will stick around after the inaugral curiosity fades. And what makes Penske think that Molson's as the officail race sponsor is going to abort CART that has been with them from the start and support the IRL? Especially since money is always a factor and I doubt that Molson's will abort CART and the Canadian drivers that WILL NOT race in the IRL to inject their money there. The cities that CART races in currently will not be able to close the streets down twice either. It is doubtful. If new Canadian cities want to start hosting races, my guess, and only a guess (call it a hunch) will follow the trend of the current established races with excellent success and established/proven attendance that are already in existence.
Lastly, you rarely see IRL on TV here and that is usually only the ThreeRingCircus500. Hardly anybody here knows about it or cares about it.
"In 2002 the three Molson Indys and the F-1 Montreal race drew more than 800,000 fans.
That fact isn't lost on the bosses at CART. Adam Saal, the vice-president of communications, knows that without the three Canadian dates CART would be hard pressed to present itself as a major racing force."
"There's no fooling Canadian fans," Saal said. "They know their racing and they know their drivers."
>>>>> Take that Penske and dream on! <<<<<
Starting to realize that the crapwagons are dying and that if you don't try and steal CART's market seeing as though much to your dismay, it is surviving, you are going down with the ship???!!!!!
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but that series coming to Canada is a joke. Now ya went and got this Canuck all fired up!:flame:
Let's see, the Marlboro gravy train is about to end for the ol captain. He's shopping new sponsors and the ones he's talking to are gushing about a Canadian presence that Cart has in 3 of Canada's biggest markets. He also stated in the article that Mexico would have no sponsor appeal to IRL sponsors. Hmmm...

Ole' Captain Liver Spots is hurtin in a big way. He thinks, if he says it enough, it will come true. :shakehead
The gravy train is over Rog, better find a new way of blackmailing companies into giving you money. :gomer:
Here's Chris Pook's take on Roger's predictions of CART's demise (from http://www.indystar.com/print/articles/1/057073-1611-037.html )
"He's either slipping into our office at night reading old papers or is out to lunch," Pook said. "It seems like every time we knock down one obstacle there's some new bombshell out of left field."
If nothing else, Chris Pook is a pretty funny soundbyte.

Canada is host to the three most important races on the CART Champ Car World Series schedule
Uh, yeah, ok. Long Beach is meaningless, apparently.
Seems like Penske is bluffing with a poor hand.
Is it too late for TG to reverse the un-reversable 2002 IRL 500 debacle? Darn, and just think he held it all in his hands.
Once.

Canuck envy. :p
Why not just follow the Toyota money over to a happy retirement in NASCAR-land?? I think he's miffed that Forsythe ended up owning his private racing club, hence the slap at the Mexican races. Someone needs to buy him a clue.

Absolutely! If this website had a theme Signature, that would have to be it.
Mr. Penske, your opinion that Canadians are so stupid they think "Driven" was representative of real open wheel racing is delusional. We are smart up here.
Now drop Gil de Ferran and back away slowly....

C'mon, in the context of the article, mentioning of the 3 canadian races only does not negate the value of other races in the series.

Has Greg Penske spawned yet?
As is, Roger gave him a sinecure with ISC and that takes care of that. The lucrative BoD positions are already rolling in for the boy...
