Is it just me, or are practice sessions and qualifying not available to watch on ESPN?

Might be ESPN3 or ESPNews (both streaming). Was that way a few weeks ago (Silverstone Quals maybe). I had to do a proxy-login through my cable provider (Comcast/Xfinity) to authenticate that I subscribe to ESPN, and I could watch.

If that's the case this week as well, I'm sure there are alternatives available that are perhaps of questionable legality (assuming you don't have a proxy-login option).

YMMV.

:shakehead: I think they've entirely lost the plot but I can't summon the interest to find out the details. The TEAM is fined?

Really bad start, thought I was watching Mark Webber for a moment.

Maybe not…

https://twitter.com/tgruener/status/1576599562881409025?s=20&t=JISb0G1RHZJvLb7XQkde_g It's possible that the two are not mutually exclusive. Max may have hit the anti-stall becausehe was usingthe wrong engine settings (in the wet).

Separately, have the Stewards dispositioned Perez passing the pacecar on the restart Scott Goodyear style?
They were talking 5-second penalty, which amounts to no penalty...

It actually wasn't passing the pacecar on track a la Goodyear...

It was not keeping up with and/or getting too close to the pace car repeated times. apparently lead cars need to remain ~10 car lengths behind the pace car up until it switches off the lights.

Well...in my twisted mind it sounds better when I compare Perez to Scott Goodyear :D

I was away over the weekend so just got to watch the race last night. Did anyone else think Leclerk purposely slowed to a gap greater than 5 seconds,, once he realized he couldn't overtake for the win? Or is my tin foil hat slipping? Or were his tires wearing or other more Leclerk-like reasons?

If you take a look here: https://www.racefans.net/2022/10/02/2022-singapore-grand-prix-interactive-data-lap-charts-times-and-tyres/

Scroll down to where it says "2022 Singapore Grand Prix lap times" and you can x-out every driver other than Leclerc and Perez. You'll see that from laps 47-53 both Leclerc and Perez were improving their lap times from laps 47-53. It's just that Perez improved his lap times more than Leclerc.

If you wanted me to guess - my hunch is that Red Bull knew they were likely to get a 5-second penalty and likely turned their engine settings up (therefore sacrificing engine life) in order to allow Perez to build the necessary gap.

But that's a guess...don't hold me to it.

Yep. There was a radio call to PER after the safety car, explaining that he was under investigation, and the words from the pit wall were "let's disappear". They were flying to try to get that gap.

I did notice that they said the lap times were improving. That's why I was surprised Leclerk was falling further behind. I didn't realize they could change the engine settings in that way while the car was on the track. That's why they call me TravelGal, not MotorGal. I did hear that call from the pit and didn't know what they meant. Now it all makes sense. Thanks, guys.

Unrelated but thinking about our thread on grammar, this reads like the post of someone who was drinking a glass of wine while waxing eloquently. At least in his own mind. Not that I would know anything about that...:shakehead::rofl:

I'm not willing to pass on the idea that Max saw some red mist and impeded Lando on purpose.

He probably just meant to weave back and forth to make Lando slow down, but his comments after about Lando needing "more respect" makes it sound far less like an accident.
