A lot of people thought the second generation of Can-Am based on F5000 cars was weak sauce. At the beginning I would have agreed, but it evolved into decent racing. Hard to believe it was so long ago, but look at Al Unser Jr as a 22 year old rookie in this...

Short version--I miss it.

Anyone else remember The Adams Escort Can-Am pontoon prototype (driver on the left, engine on the right)? When I saw this car at Mosport for it's first outing I could barely believe my eyes. It was clearly still in development. As it went down the front straight it was shedding sparks from all the downforce forcing the body to drag on the pavement. Ah the good old days.

This was one of our favorite races. The Lumberman's 500. Can-Am cars vs IMSA GT cars for 500km.

Yes, I do remember that car. Looked at it closely in the Road America paddock. The size of the steel tubing cage around the driver's pod was really impressive.
