I was really saddened to find that Mike Henderson passed away last September. Mike was a great singer, songwriter, player, and performer.

I feel fortunate to have seen one of Mike's regular Monday night shows at the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. This clip captures a tiny bit of the pure, rocking, exuberance that we enjoyed that night.

Henderson was most at home playing the blues, but worked both in country and blues. Eventually he founded a bluegrass band called The Steeldrivers with a collection of his Nashville compatriots and a newcomer named Chris Stapleton. Henderson and Stapleton became a powerful songwriting team and Stapleton honed his performance chops. The pair would win multiple songwriting grammys together and Stapleton would go on to become a country super-star.

Chris Stapleton spoke at Henderson's memorial and said, "Mike made a name for himself in this town by being completely original I have made a name for myself in this town by stealing things from Mike Henderson."
