Hey OC friends! It's been a while, I was thinking of you all recently and had lost my password for OC. Thanks to TravelGal and nrc, I was able to log in to the forum again. :)
As a aside, I wish slack had the :gomer: emoji.
I hope you all are doing well and have been enjoying Indycar (not for me) and Formula 1 (Lando secured that championship for McLaren!).
I've been working hard and getting out a lot more which is great. The pandemic really sucked to work from home, but I'm now back in the office five days a week!
The Patriots suck now. They can cap it off by winning next week and losing the #1 pick in the draft. WVU is middling without the NIL money to compete, but they brought back Rich Rodriguez...
Who are people liking for the CFP? The first round was so bad. I know it's the first year, but expanding to 12 was too much. 6 or 8. I'd lean towards 8. I'm leaning towards Texas, which is a surprise they did so well first year in the SEC.
What are the best movies and TV shows you're watching?
Last thing. I have a few free 6-month LinkedIn Premium trials I can share with you all. I know the economy is wacky, some people have it great, others not so much. If you think it will help you, send me a PM with your LinkedIn profile and I'll send one over to you.
On to 2025!
Thanks for checking in. Happy to hear that you're doing well. Football aside, that is.
The Champcar debacle really killed motorsport for me. I still watch bits and pieces when things are on. Went to SCCA races at MidOhio for old times sake, last year.
Football-wise I'd love to see the Bengals salvage a winning season by beating the Steelers but I don't hold out much hope that they'll get the help to back into the playoffs. Maybe next year they'll decide to start in September with the rest of the league.
I agree, 12 is too many for the CFP. 8 would be plenty. I've had a hard time getting into it with all the portal transfers. OSU feels more like an NFL farm team than a college football team. I'm required by Ohio law to root for OSU even if I don't think they deserve it after the loss to that team up north.
TV shows? We've been watching Brassic which is a UK show about a band of petty criminals. Extremely mature subject matter from time to time.

Also will soon get back to "Slow Horses" on Apple TV which is now on season 5.

Hi brother, nice to have you back. To be fair I think we have all been a bit slack here except for Steve. :)
Once Champcar failed I took more notice of F1, F2 and F3 plus the Aussie V8s. Sadly, even though there are Kiwis in Indy I just can't watch it.
Since retiring I have been watching a heap more YouTube, touring the world and Tiki touring around the South Island with one of our own. Hi Gal!:D

It did dampen things for me, but I've found F1 to still have the technology and competition. It does suck that it has become so profitable now that they won't expand the grid (outside of begrudgingly for GM). I'd like to see some more teams. The cost cap was a good move, but they should've brought some more teams in at the same time. Next year should be really competitive from the outset.

The Patriots were the ones who came out and stunned the Bengals. They have to stop playing down to the level of their opponents. They're too talented to do that and are in a tough division (unlike the Texans).

I love Slow Horses! I'll have to check out Brassic.

I look at Indycar every now and then, but I just can't when I see the cars. They've been using the same chassis since 2012! All the technology and innovation is just gone.
Congratulations on retiring, glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Hellloooooooooo Insomniac. THERE you are! Good to see you around these parts again.
Yes, it was a grand trip to NZ with Kiwifan (exfan?) The highlight of my year. Not only is NZ wonderful, so is Kiwifan and whole Kfan family. Plus, now I know what tikitour means. LOL.
I still watch the current version of IndyCar because Scott Dixon is still there and Will Power, who was TravelGuy's fave. I started with F1 the year before I went to Monaco so I'd have some idea what was going on. You know, what do those 3-letter abbreviations mean and what the dickens is DRS? LOL. I chose LeClerk as "my driver" since he was from Monaco. It's turned out to be a fairly decent choice. Then they contorted the rules to prevent Hamilton from beating Verstappen. To compound that, last year Red Bull had a multi-second second advantage each race at the beginning of the season--until they didn't. Uh, no. I stopped paying attention except for the occasional glance during the chats lead by devilmaster.
I was gone 3 months out of this past year so managed to miss the buildup to the College Football Playoffs. I turned on the TV yesterday out of respect to New Orleans itself. Very intriguing game with Notre Dame and Georgia. I don't think I've ever seen such an incredible interweaving of spectacular plays and gigantic goofs. How in the name of PETE, does the DEFENSE delay the game? Lordy. Anyway, to the points above, I see that all 4 teams who got byes, lost. Ergo, have fewer teams and no byes.
PS, Happy New Year. Don't be a stranger.

Since this appears to have turned into the long-timer's check-in thread I figured I'd drop by.
