View Full Version : Foyt Futility Watch -- 9/19 - 9/21
AJ4 practices in two cars and is still 3+ mph off the pace, battling for DFL with IRL superstars Robbie Buhl, Scott Sharp and Sarah Fisher.
More to come.
Unfortunately.
I forgot Larry!
Seems that NASCAR is afraid of a bit of rain and set the grid for Dover by owner's points. Poor Larry doesn't even get a chance to show the futility this weekend.
So, to sum up, Larry's attempt at futility this weekend is, well, um, futile. ;)
AJ4 qualifies 20th, 4.3 mph off the pace. Only the no hope efforts of Hearn with Hemelgarn and Buhl with Dreyer & Reinbold are slower...
He did that well?
Interesting that Foyt and Hemelgarn, two flagship IRL teams and stalwarts of the Vision, are reduced to the same insignificant backmarker status they had in CART.
Good thing Tony fixed things.

How do you fall downhill on a level playing field?

Good question. Also, I have no idea how he did, but how does Gweg "Tiger Woods" Way show up with a couple of silocone-enhanced track dollies, a 4-in-1 screwdriver and a fit-all and qually better than these long time big budget established teams?
(assuming he DID qually that is)

Maybe he was drafting his granddaddy's reputation?
AJ4 ends up 17th and only five laps down.

you get to work w/ a Cat and start digging.
Futile
It took AJ at least 10 years to come to the conclusion that he needed to retire, that he was just embarrassing himself out on the track. Using that time table, he should be about ready to hang it up as an owner-only. Too bad he won't cause it's not his butt that's getting humiliated out there week after week, just his grandson and occasionally a Japanese ride buyer.

As long as IMS and others are stupid enough to pay him to run in the IRL he probably will continue. A fat billfold makes pride really easy to swallow for some people.
