well, ok...though their hands probly weren't 'in play', anyway. ump was right there.

wonder if those fans could have turned the dp at short. bet the shortstop's breathing a sigh of relief now that the heat's off him. :p ;)

That idiot should be beaten within an inch of his life and then allowed to make a full recovery.

And then beaten to death. :D

It's an out for the OTHER TEAM. Let it drop.

sorry, wb....

no reason they can't win tonite. and if they do, heard that ron santo plans to call the world series from his home in arizona.

the doctors are putting off surgery to remove bladder(?) tumors. they're also still 'watching' his heart, but he says he feels well right now.

santo's always been 'the man'.

(chop, i'm glad now that my ebay pymt to you for the cone photo wasn't any more delinguent than it was! :D )

What the guy did was stupid, but like Eagle said, he didn't boot the dp ball.

And it's not like he was the only one reaching for the ball.

That guy might as well move.... to another state at the very least!

16 years ago the Cardinals lost the sixth game of the series and probably the series due to a blown call by Umpire Don Denkenger. People's blood still boils in this town when they here that name.

Can somebody say, "Payback for using a corked bat for who knows how long before it busted".

The cheats are getting what is due.

Paul Harvey said on his radio program that after the game, the fan was escorted from his seat by security, taken back stage and given a different set of clothes.

The FIRST thing this guy should do is "Copyright" his Name so that he makes every nickel he can for its use.

Second He should get himself a Literary Agent, and personal appearance agent, because if the Cubs lose, he will have "calls coming out of the walls" to appear on every TV show, and public event for the entire off season.

Third he should get a 10 million dollar insurance policy from Lloyd's to protect his Family from loss of income when one of the many thousands of "Slow Witted" Cubs fans thinks he'll be "Hero" if he "Off's" him!

Of course if it happened in Philly, ALL the above would apply here also!! ;)

From a "Practical" point of view, I want the Cubs to Win

A Marlins vs Yankees World Series will be a Ratings "Snoozer"

A Cubs vs. Yankees (David vs Goliath) Word Series will be a ratings bonanza UNLESS the Cubs go 0 - 2 to start then it's over and ratings will plummet

A Cubs vs Braves series would be the best for the Ratings for 7 Games because they both have sentiment with them!

I really fear for this guys life after watching the News Tonite!

To blame that guy for the Cubs losing is really shallow, and puts me in mind of all the frikkin' excuses that Water Closet teams use for losing a race.

Cubs and Braves won't have a chance of making it to the series. Both are National League teams.

Think he meant Red Sox, not Braves.

Must have been thinking back to the days of the Boston Braves, who probably have a better chance of winning the series than the Sox.

FourRunner was only rooting for the Cubs because he thought Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown was still playing. :D

After watching the Cubs suck the place up tonight, I withdraw my earlier statement calling for that fan's head. Maybe a nice punch in the gut, though.

Now I can concentrate on the Bears plumbing new depths of suckery. This week it's Chris Chandelier's turn to be thrown to the lions.

Funny you should put it that way. Against my Lions, the Bears have a definite chance ;)

I just want to say something, to illustrate the startling effects I have on the teams I love.

I have two favorite baseball teams.

One is the Chicago Cubs, who I followed religiously when I was a kid once we got cable TV. I remember with vivid detail the losses in games 3, 4, and 5 of the 1984 NLCS. I hate Steve Garvey to this day.

The other is the Boston Red Sox. My (significantly) older brother was a huge Sox fan and cultivated a love for them in me. While unable to watch their games on TV, I pored through the papers every morning for stats, writeups, etc. I remember with vivid detail the losses in games 6 and 7 of the 1986 World Series. I hate Ray Knight to this day.

I hold out hope for my Red Sox to down the evil empire tonight and go battle against the Fish for the Series. But what can I say about my Cubbies? Gloom, despair, and agony on me.

Also a monsterous Denver Broncos fan, and while they seem to have overcome my cursed fandom, let's not forget the Super Bowl disasters I endured: 27-10 (Cowboys), 39-20 (Giants), 42-10 (Redskins), 55-10 (49ers). When Denver beat Green Bay for the 1997 title, I sat on my couch with tears streaming down my face. My wife hit me hard on the shoulder and yelled, "You didn't even cry when the kids were born!!" I love Terrell Davis to this day.

But back to baseball, wouldn't the PERFECT ending to this series be Pedro outduelling Roger? Roger gets sent to retirement by his old team? Sox clinch in Yankee Stadium? Steinbrenner has a coronary right there, live on FOX?

I can always hope.

As a Hiro Matsu****a fan, I can understand your posts enormously! :)

Great post, WB. I remember as a kid watching the Raiders beat my beloved Vikings in the Super Bowl, crying my eyes out. I hate the Raiders to this day, and a twist of fate has me taking the train to work about 100 yards past the Oakland Coliseum.

Oh well, Rams are starting to look good and Illini Basketball practice started today.
