Larson was on NPR this morning talking about his new anthology, "The Complete Far Side". Boy did I love that cartoon.

I miss Bloom County and Calvin and Hobbes too, but have found a couple of strips that I like almost as much: Sherman's Lagoon and Get Fuzzy. Dilbert is a favorite too.

Calvin and Suzy are sitting beside each other for lunch, discussing what they have in their lunchboxes. Calvin holds up a slice of bologna and says, "Eww... a cross-section of a dachshund!"
Still LMAO when I think about his expression...

The Far Side is back in syndication until about Christmas, to promote the book - rerunning classics.
Of the Far Side books, my favorite (by far!) was "The Pre-History of The Far Side Gallery: A 10th Anniversary Exhibit"
If you can find it, pick it up! Larsen shares sketches from his sketch book, rejected cartoons, complaints from readers, mistakes and misprints (some of the ones where the Far Side Caption is swapped with the Family Circus Caption are really, really funny), and a bunch of other cool stuff (like his personal favorites).
I read:
Peanuts
Dilbert
Zits
Foxtrot
Sherman's Lagoon
The only cartoons I read these days are Red Meat (weekly - http://www.redmeat.com/ ) and Get Fuzzy (daily - http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/getfuzzy/ ).

I really miss Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes
I'm a comic junkie.
I pick up the Chi Trib just to read Get Fuzzy, Agnes and Sherman's Lagoon.
Boondocks, Dilbert, For better or for Worse, Crankshaft, Mutts plus a few I'm spacing come in the Star.
hey railbird, houston chronicle has some of those comics online:

I know they're online, but it's tough to haul the lap top to the crapper in the morning.
I'm an old fart, I still pick up three papers every morning.

Why does "Cheetah Wheelies" crack me up so much? Believe me, I've got all the books, but that one, I dunno.

One of my favorite Far Side panels involved what dogs hear (as opposed to what people think they hear): "Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, Ginger! Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, Ginger!"
When they made a reference to it Gilmore Girls I just about laughed my butt off the couch.
(Very much off-topic but G.G. is one of the best "dramedies" on TV, not to mention that Lauren Graham is VERY easy on the eyes.)
calvin & hobbes and the far side...

That was my assumption, but there's much chatter in the press about the possibility of Mr. Larson coming out of retirement. Almost seems like too much to ask, but after 25 years anything's possible.

It's alive!
Interesting comments from Larson around his reasons. Interesting that the guy whose cartoons were badly copied and posted on every nerd cube wall in the '90s is bothered by poor reproductions on the Internet. Not sure how a trickle of official reposts solves that.
After 25 years, 'The Far Side' is back -- with an online debut and new comics (https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/18/entertainment/gary-larson-far-side-return-trnd/index.html)

It doesn't, but you're not beholden to media conglomerates and you control* your advertising/revenue streams, I guess.

Very encouraging start. It looks completely fresh.
