I'm turning all the lights out and going to the local pub at sundown to be as far away from the little heathens as possible. Just kidding...

My favorite thing to do is open the door and when they say "trick or treat", I say "TRICK!" I only do that if I can see their parents on the sidewalk though. It really freaks out the little goblins most of the time, because they don't know the orgin of the phrase. After I say that, yhey usually just say "we want candy" while thinking I'm weird or something. If I don't do that, I always mess with them somehow, like asking what they are dressed up as, and if they say a princess, I say they look more like a clown. Some kids don't even dress up in a costume. Just put makeup on their faces or something. I REALLY mess with them. Or telling them about the good old days when I was a kid and make up some story about having to trudge through snow and wind on Halloween for a mile to the nearest house, up hill both ways. Or say to them "ok, do me a trick. You said trick for candy, right?" The possibilities are endless.

The kids don't get it but the parents are suitably offended.
