View Full Version : Holey Shmoley it's cold
Just got home a little while ago, Chicago suburbs, about -5. When I got out of my truck, I sneezed, as a stinger left my nasal pasages it turned into a frozen projectile, I heard a ping as it bounced off the guys windshield parked next to me...I think it might have left a bullseye on it too:eek: .
Man what I wouldn't give for one of those 95 deg. days at RA:D

Hey, thanks for the mental image.
I just got here to work a few minutes ago, and I can definitely say that it's cold. Zero in Indianapolis, -1 in Greenwood, with 25mph winds. It's pretty cold when you have to thaw your shoelaces so they stop going click click click against your shoe when you walk.

Most schools here have already cancelled school due to the cold.

-2 here in NW Ohio. It kinda sux. I mean, I spend all summer lamenting the fact that it's 95 degrees and humid, pining for 20 degree, snow-filled days. Then when winter rolls around and it finally does get cold, there ain't a lick o' snow to be found! I think we've had 16 or so days where we haven't cracked the 25 barrier, but the last significant snowfall we had was around the first of the year, then it warmed up to friggin 50 degrees! I hate Muther F... er... Nature.
Winter Warlock!
Typical. It's my yearly getaway from the cold and we are under a freeze warning here in the Keys!
Damn cold front! Followed me all the way down here:mad:
It's around 1 here in St. Louis. WAAAAAYYY cold.
This ain't nothing for you penguins but, it is supposed to get down to 23 here tonight. That will be the coldest it has been all season.
Thank goodness it is only for one night, Friday's low is only supposed to be in the upper 30's.

About +2 here in Dayton. I personally don't mind the cold too much. I'll take it over 90+ with high humidity anyday. Remember, you can always put on more clothes but can only take so many off. (especially with a "chisled from jello" body like mine).
How much is a one-way flight to St. Pete from, say, Dayton or Columbus?

Zero as we speak in Naptown - wind chill -17.
Even the monkeys are wearing reinforced underwear....
You guys are all in good shape. Here in Toronto, the temp is about the same as Chicago, but I swear I just saw a brass monkey runnin' down the street looking like a eunich!
Greetings from Minnesota, where its a balmy -11, but it feels like -30. (Like anybody can really tell the difference.)

Cancelled due to cold? Sissies.
When I was a kid, we used to walk to school in this weather wearing nothing but our Speedos and Wonder Bread bags rubber-banded around our feet.
Sheesh.

I just thought of one huge upside to the cold. I swear every year there are more and mre deer in my yard. This year they got into my garden, which is fenced off like the stage in the country bar that the Blues Brothers played in in the movie, and wiped it out. Hopefully this snap thins the herd.

Seriously, the school I went to high school at was always the last one in the county to be cancelled. It was rumoured that the Super. had a snowmobile.
Actually after I started paying attention to what schools were off there were very few in the urban areas. Almost all of the ones that were cancelled are way out in the country where kids would be forced to wait for their busses a hundred yards from their houses front doors.

Am I the only one with an image of Nappy in a flowery hat, on his hands and knees, planting tulips?

Yeah, it's cold. I can see the $$$ floating out of the air ducts every time my furnace kicks on.
Speaking of school closings, in the winter of 77/78 there was a massive cold spell when it was around -20 for more than a week. I went to a small college in Hulmanville (Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech., same as Tim Cindric) and on the local news every night, rather than cite what was closed, the talking heads eventually just said "Every school in the viewing area will be closed tomorrow, however Rose-Hulman will be conducting classes as scheduled."

Hey, I only plant real man stuff, like onions, basil, tomatoes and the like. If you don’t think its real man stuff I dare anyone of you to come by my neighborhood and tell some of the old time Italian guys who also all have gardens that its not.
As for the hat, I look good in it.

Well the thermometer on my house, which is accurate, was -12 this morning. On top of that we got about 8 inches of snow yesterday. Spring can’t come fast enough.
I've had it! I seriously think I'm about to lose my mind! I can't handle this F-in cold anymore! It has been below freezing for a month now! I hate this crap and there ain't a darn thing I can do about it!

Uhh, the trees and plants here are starting to bloom. Seems that the past few days of 70+ temps (today was around 80) are fooling them into thinking spring is here!

Ah yes, Joe Bob provides the perfect reason why I always answer any "cold enough for ya?" questions with "It'll do until cold comes along"
Because there is always some smartass from Frozen Bung Hole Montana that will call whatever temp you think is cold "T shirt weather".
I don't give a damm, I'm freezing my skinny butt off.
