View Full Version : NASCAR Announcers Prepare For Larry Foyt
On the eve of the beginning of the Larry Foyt Era in Winston Cup, the most anticipated rookie debut since Ron Esau, my sources have told me that the announcers at the networks have been dilligently working on the following phrases to properly prepare for the upcoming season:
"This team is out of provesionals, so they'll have to make this field on time."
"That lap won't be enough to bump Brett Bodine out of the field."
"And Larry Foyt brings out the first caution of the day."
"Starting 28th is Larry Foyt after his best qualifying effort of the season."
"The leader Kenseth will have to deal with the lapped car of Larry Foyt."
"That was a very professional move on the part of Foyt to move over and let the leaders race."
"It looks like Newman was held up for a moment by the lapped car of Foyt."
"And finishing 37th, 5 laps down was Larry Foyt who was the last car running on the track."
"The car on the inside line on this restart is Larry Foyt who is not on the lead lap."
"There you see the cars that went home early this weekend, and Larry Foyt misses another race."
"And because Foyt has the fewest owner points of the cars that did not make the field on speed, he will not get a provisional."

My fav:

I give Foyt a smidgen of credit.
I'm sure even HE knows he's in over his head.
Unlike his grandfather...

"There's a really good battle shaping up for the 42nd and 43rd positions between Foyt and our pole sitter Fittipaldi." ;)

He sounds like the goaltender for the Syracuse Crunch.

Wasn't there an Esau in the Bible who got cheated out of his birthright?

No, Esau traded his birthright to his brother Jacob for a bowl of stew. He was hungry or something.

Note to self: don't quote Scripture before noon.

I don't recall any stories in the Bible about sprint car drivers who didn't get rides for Indy because ride buying foreign road racers took the seats.

But I do recall the Parohs (sp?) driving them out of the Brickyard to wander in the wilderness. Its right there in George's Bible version 8.45

No, but there's plenty of stories about power struggles...

Right here. Top West Coast sportsman and late model driver in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. Won numerous races against the likes of Joe Ruttman, Hershel McGriff, Jimmy Insolo, etc. Bought my dad's ex-David Pearson '69 Holman/Moody Torino and won a Sportsman race at Riverside with it in '79 or so.

You must have missed this, then:
Our Tony, who art in Indianapolis,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Brickyard come,
thy will be done,
in Indy as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily hammering.
Forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive CART’s trespasses against us.
And lead us not into road racing,
but deliver us from evil foreign devils. Amen

I don't have a clue where he came from either. I just saw the name listed in race some results from the early/mid-80s.
Trevor Boys drove for an underfunded team, McCaig Racing. I don't think he bought the rides from Hylton so much as McCaig and Hylton teamed up on occasion, but I could be wrong.
