There was a thread a coupla weeks ago, re: combining all your messanger programs into one download...
Does anyone know/remeber.. ?

It's called Trillian (http://trillian.cc/). It basically manages all your message programs under one interface.

stupid windows messenger wont shut off for me, always says "some program is currently using contacts, it could be outlook, word, etc etc"

problem being, NOTHING'S RUNNING!!! how could anything be using WM if nothing else is running at all!?

Because it's part of the OS (or a service in Win2K/NT/xP) and not a standalone program? Try here (http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup/) for info to disable the service.

well before I installed office and service packs, updates etc, I could manually close msngr after it'd open at startup, ah well...
