I see the L.A. Marathon was won by a female runner yesterday, strangely enough her finishing time was about 17 minutes slower than the fastest male runner. Apparently the organizers thought it would be a great idea if the women could "challenge" the men to the finish, they accomplished this by giving the elite female runners a 20 minute head start. The overall winner received an extra $50K in prize money. Now they're proclaiming a huge historic moment in marathon history, they're hoping the idea spreads to other marathons.
I'm hoping it spreads to other sports. Maybe next year Wimbledon can pit the men against the women too, the men will be forced to use the doubles' sidelines.
The L.A. Marathon has always had trouble with legitimacy, this stupid stunt may have set them back 20 years.
