McDonalds and Newman-Haas Racing have signed a multi-year deal with Sebastien Bourdais as the driver for 2004. They will be advertising Paul Newman's "Newman's Own" salad dressing for McDonalds.
Bruno Junqueira also was announced as the second driver for Newman-Haas with PacifiCare sponsorship.
Cialis was not part of the press conference at all.

I don't get this "advertising Newman's Own" thing. How come McDonald's can never say "McDonald's is a proud sponsor of the N/H Champ Car"? Instead it is for advertising Newman salad dressing. The car has nothing but golden arches and the word McDonald's on it though. Will this change?
It was the same with Kanaans McDonald's car which was advertising the Brazilian 'Drive Thru' advertising campaign. Is it all marketing semantics? Could anyone in marketing help me understand. It's bugging me. :gomer:

While the money was from McDonalds Brazil, wasn't the "Drive Thru" campaign worldwide (hence widespread usage in NASCAR too)?

Okay, with McDonald's sponsoring a car how about Burger King? Well, BK doesn't accept emails at all (not real smart, IMO). And doesn't look like they are very customer friendly on any front from this bit on how to contact them:

Might be worth flooding them with calls asking if they will be sponsoring a car now that Micky D is. Just hate having plasti-food from McD's getting the glory when BK's plasti-food is a bit better. :)

I've still never actually seen a single Whataburger outside TX (not that I'm in any of those states that often). And I always avoided it during college on the basis of my friends getting food poisoning/diarrhea on more than one occasion there...
I can't recall if I ever actually saw a single TV, newspaper or radio ad from them.
As for Wendy's, anything would be an improvement over their pathetic "unofficial spokesman" campaign right now. At least they haven't brought DW back, which would NOT be an improvement.

A big thanks should go to Paul Newman, who has been out beating the bushes for sponsorship for several months. Not only for his team, but for the entire series. Newman puts his money where his mouth is, and will dedicate his busy schedule to make sure big time road racing in the US does not die.

I wish to thank you and congratulate you on your wise decision to back Newman-Haas and Sebastien Bourdais in the CART / OWRS. Last year I attened the night race in Cleveland, and watched first hand, one of the most exciting races of the season. Sebastien's inspired win and Ronald McDonald's light hearted participation in the victory ceremony was the highlight of the season. As your studies most likely revealed, the fan base of OWRS is relatively small compared ot that of NASCAR, but is fiercely loyal to the series, its drivers and, most importantly the good sponsors who provide us with the means for our enjoyment. You have made a terififc choice. Wishing you the best of luck in 2004.

IIRC, McDonald's owns the Chipotle Mexican Restaurant (semi-fast food) chain. They're much better tasting that McD's. So there's a real opportunity for some cross-fertilization here. And if you want to support McD's support of CART, try them instead of McD's place.

Don't know for sure but here is a guess...
Newmans Own Salad Dressing is a fund-raising mechanism for Newman's Hole in the Wall Camp for sick kids. By using Newmans products in their restraunts they can claim part of their expense as a charitable deduction. By lending their name and money to sponsor a Newmans Own champcar, they can claim (part of?) that marketing expense as a charitable expense while also raising good will for the McDonalds brand.
But I'm not a tax guy so I don't know the advantages to a business to having charitable expenses versus food and marketing expenses.

actually whataburger has the most stringet corporate health inspections of those mass marketed nasty crap heart disease chains, but they're greasy as hell :)

My guess would be that since Newman is a resident of Ct, and has ties to Ct for a long time, and I believe is also the site of the first H.I.T.W.G retreat\location when he initially started up the whole thang...
Why do you think he is so good at Lime Rock :p Even at 70+ years old?
Plus, Connecticut has no State Income Tax (or at least it didnt when I lived there back in the 80's)

In WV as well. I hate those cookies. They have a balloon festival and there is a balloon shaped like a giant cookie. I remember when they land, they give out cookies to the kids.
