Mazda Rev It Up: Anyone here going? (LA)

Just snuck in under the wire to sign up for this, which is this weekend at the El Toro Marine Base. I haven't done any high performance driving since Germany in July (other than the usual stuff in my escort) so am looking forward to it. Read in the Times yesterday that ex Craftsman Truck winner and sprint car guy Randy Tolsma is one of the instructors. Anybody here going? I will report back on Sunday evening.

They have go-karts, RX-8, Mazda 6, and Miata's, as well as the driving challenge (which is in a "3", I think?)

I've got a friend who's going tomorrow, Sunday. I told him just to go & have fun since many of the top, regional SCCA autorcrossers are going to be there.

I wish that thing came to Cleveland. The closest is Chicago, but I'm not making that trip just to lose.

I did go today and I had a great time....but as to whether it was worth blowing 40 bucks for what amounted to three laps....I'd have to say no. I would have been better off going to Dromo One or racing at the Go Kart World in Carson. I really am not a fan of rinky dink so called tracks set up with cones, and trying to steer cars through them. I did it at the GM test drive in the Corvette last year. Yesterday I told a friend that it was at the El Toro Marine Base, so I thought with all the runways the track would be longer and more fun. But they aren't, they are just mickey mouse. There's just not enough room to do anything with the car or express yourself. In that way it's more like the Malibu Grand Prix type experience. I had a better time on the Kart track whipping everybody and getting a free t shirt for it. I still recommend the experience, and it was a fun day out. I didn't get a chance to test drive the Mazda cars, which is free but I sat in one of their wagons and really liked it. Seems like a really great product line.Talking cars and racing with many of the people I met in line was also a lot of fun. Germany and the Nurburgring should hire me as a PR person cause that's what I talked about all day. Hey man, I lapped the Nurburgring 5 x last year and almost crashed on it, so how can driving through a goofy orange cone course twice compare?
