Woohoo!
$10M to run him, wow.
Good news.
I would have preferred that Gigante and Jourdain move to a different team so Rahal could concentrate on going in circles but this will do.
Interesting that one of the sources for this article has ties to the earl.

Oh, and nice work Ted. ;)

I agree, but Gigante is probably under contract to Rahal for now. I would not be at all surprised if OWRS isn't doing all they can to make sure that sponsorship money goes to loyal teams rather than people playing both sides. If we have learned one thing it's that nobody getting checks from Honda or Toyota can be trusted.

It simply confirms that the IRL has a full court press on to prevent Long Beach from happening.
So much for all that insider info from anonymous posters on other forums.

A second item of interest in there is NH saying they are running in ChampCar this season, Indy is a one off, which is mixed news. I like them staying in CC, but do not appreciate them propping up the Gomers. However, a lifetime of watching politics as my other favorite sport has taught me to parse official pronouncements very carefully. I am not completely put at ease by this gem from NH, "We are committed to racing in the OWRS this season."

I agree, but you might also think the series to be run would be specified in the contract. That apparently is not the case though with Adrian and Telmex.

Great news, indeed! If a Gigante opens a store in central Indiana, I'll shop there.

Does it still take $10 millions to run a one-car team? With the current chassis/engine rules I thought it would be less than that.

You could likely run a one car team for 2 mil or less by running old equipment and no testing, but would have no chance for the championship. A competitive entry is in the 6 to 10 mil per car range.
Rahal is on Wind on Thursday. The spin will be interesting. $10 says he just was checking with them and wasn't trying to get them to go to the IRL.
Out of the 10 mil would likely be a chunk for Michel's dad as the broker and Michel as the driver, and the rest to the team, so that sounds about right.

Just read elsewhere, a post from a usually reliable source (race team member) that Rahal is in Florida, and will in fact move to the IRL.
Without Gigante, and Michel.
For what it's worth, anyway.
I'll believe it when I see it.

We'll see. The rumor-mongerong this week has been crazy. Speculation also has Michel and Gigante going to PKVR, and "Speedy" being shipped out to a Coyne or Conquest. Which will actually work out very well for everyone, IMHO.

What's going on in FL that Rahole would be there?
If Gigante leaves and Rahal goes entirely to the IRL then the picture will become very clear. That would say to me that both Rahal and Fernandez had already signed contracts with Honda that required them to leave CART and they were trying to orchestrate the whole thing to maximize the chances of getting Gigante to leave with Rahal.

Could be. But again, why not earlier, i.e. before the IRL season started?

Good point. Just based on speculation, I imagine that there is quite a bit of 'promises' of greatness for the IRL "if only ChampCar doesn't succeed".

That's true, and I suppose timing is a consideration, but could they not have effectively done the same thing in Feb.?

IMO it look's worse happening shortly after the roll-out in Long Beach.

I get that thinking. Just not sure I'm ready to buy the conspiracies...yet.
Certainly would not shock me though.

More to the point, it leaves less time for OWRS to react before the cars are due on the grid.
Why telegraph your punches and leave your opponent time to mount a defense?

I'll still be suprised to see Rahal go to the IRL without Gigante, but if he does it will pretty much prove that he's being offered more than just Honda bucks.
btw, as a side note, the IMS museum has ten cars at the Amelia Island Concours. You don't suppose the two old golf buddies are hittin the links down there do you?

Carpentier as his driver would really say something too. Only Honda has that kind of money.

Maybe the IRL and Honda put on the full court press right around the LB preview after feeling them out beforehand and already having an idea of what it would take?
There's nothing on Mexican newspapers or TV, etc. And the situation after AF's departure has been followed extremely closely, as much as I hope those guys stay in OWRS, I won't be celebrating until I see something in Mexican press or an official statement from Rahal and Gigante. Gigante in the 2 years involved with Michel have done pretty big presentations and way ahead of time, hope I'm just reading too much into this, but so far nothing.

Michel and Gigante could always turn to Herdez. I wonder if they have the capabilities to run 3 cars? Do Gigante stores sell Herdez products? I imagine they would.
Herdez would love the extra money.
