View Full Version : Poor choice of a library book for children.
A children's story about a prince whose true love turns out to be another prince. (http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?oldflok=FF-APO-1110&idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20040318%2F0634713423.htm&sc=1110&floc=NW_5-L1)
Careful. Don't turn this topic into a political one (ie., marriage in SF).
This is wrong. Way too young to be exposed to this, regardless of how you feel about G or L (and I really just don't care about your orientation, long as it ain't toward the kiddies).
At this age, it's up to the family to explain to the kid why they have an uncle Adam and an uncle Steve, not the library.
What's the right age for this to be freely available in schools? I don't know, but I would lean towards freshman in high school..

I know! The parents could file a law suit, claiming pain and suffering. They could sue the school. the publisher, the librarian, the college the librarian went to, the contractor that built the school, the manufacturer of the bricks the school is made of, the company that made the bookshelves, the manufacturer of the inks used to print the books, and the maker of the printing presses that printed the books.
Heaven forbid that a family be subjected to something that they do not believe in or agree with.
They should have just quietly made a complaint to the proper authorities and dealt with it that way rather than electing to become the nexus of controversy and publicity.
I feel better now.

Bingo, JLMannin.
God forbid anybody be exposed to anything they disagree with. Here's an idea- you avoid this one, and I'll remember not to tune in to Rush.
It's not nearly as offensive as this gem, though...
The Light and the Glory for Children: Discovering God's Plan for America from Christopher Columbus to George Washington (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0800754484/qid=1079638591/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-2888407-5563907?v=glance&s=books)
Yup, slaughtering hapless, friendly Arawaks was all part of God's plan. Can't figure out what a bunch of English Deists have to do with it, though.
Rather than keep the book until the library agrees to ban it, maybe they should burn it!
