LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 5, 2004) -- Race fans at the upcoming 30th Anniversary Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach can enjoy a free trip South of the Border beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 16.
The Tecate “Fiesta Friday” Concerts will be featured on the Rock-n-Roar Concert stage, just outside of the Convention Center’s Ocean Blvd. side. Free to all race ticket holders, the concerts will include performances by some outstanding Mexican talent, including, in order of appearance:
Los Ayvar (formerly Los Yonics), a prolific group, with its brand of tropical/Cumbia music performed in local ballrooms throughout the American Southwest. Los Ayvar mixes tropical music with softer ballads, and the combination has earned them several hits over their career.
Carmen Jara con Mariachi is known as much for being the Diva of Mexican Regional Music as she is for her beauty! Carmen is recognized for her versatility, as she started out in jazz and pop music and has since been dedicated to Regional Banda music.
Los Astros de Durango, one of the hottest bands in the new wave of “Pasito Duranguense Music.” Los Astros de Durango have emerged as a huge success with their Top-20 Billboard song, “La Milpa.”
“The Tecate ‘Fiesta Friday’ concerts are a natural for our 30th anniversary,” said Grand Prix Association of Long Beach President and CEO Jim Michaelian. “Many of our loyal Hispanic race fans have been with us at every race, cheering on great drivers like Emerson Fittipaldi and Juan Montoya.
“This year, many will be rooting for Michel Jourdain Jr., Mario Dominguez, Roberto Gonzalez and Rodolfo Lavin. And whether they’re at their 30th Grand Prix or their first, the Tecate ‘Fiesta Friday’ Concerts are just a small way of saying ‘Thank You’ for being here.”
The hit rock group “Everclear” will appear in concert on the “Rock –n-Roar” Stage at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, free to race ticketholders.
Tickets for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, taking place April 16-18, can be ordered via credit card by using the toll-free ticket hotline, (88 82-SPEED. Tickets can also be purchased on-line at www.longbeachgp.com, at the ticket office at 430 East First Street in Long Beach, between Elm and Linden Streets in downtown Long Beach or at Ticketmaster locations throughout Southern California, including all Robinsons-May, Tower Records and Wherehouse stores.
Ticket prices for the three-day event range from $30 for a Friday/Saturday-only general admission ticket to $110 for a three-day ticket, which includes Saturday and Sunday reserved seating on upper levels of the grandstands. Limited pre-paid parking packages are available and can be purchased when ordering tickets.
Handicapped seating, Bosch Champ Car Garage passes, hospitality club packages and super photo tickets are also available for purchase.
