View Full Version : The Ultimate Foyt Futility Watch Thread?

It's being reported that Larry Foyt will test an IRL car with the intent of running in the 500 this May. Imagine Larry and AJ4 struggling mightly with each other to remain DFL for a whole month. Add in the pretenders for Most Futile -- Sarah Fisher and Ed Carpenter -- who would usurp the title.

If true, we might have a twenty page tread in the Month of May!

Not that putting those two out to stud will lead to anything better. ;)

All the cattle will die of dehydration by the time Larry and IV get them back to the pen. :D

I cant think of a worse driver lineup in the history of Openwheel racing

Was Rick Treadway's phone off the hook or something?

AJ's team is certainly falling apart. What is mind boggling is that he continues.
How can someone who used to win can carry on with such horrible results?

I'll give the dog his due: as a driver he was one of the best. But as a team owner, he's ALWAYS been something of a joke, hasn't he?

Lifted from the Indy Star site:

Another rookie, Larry Foyt, was exempted from the orientation program because of his experience in NASCAR. But he still had to convince a tough critic of his ability to drive an open-wheel car.

A.J. Foyt, a four-time Indy champion and Larry's father, spent the morning with one eye on his son and the other on a stopwatch. By lunchtime, it seemed the decision was all but made that Foyt will field an all-family team with cars for his son and grandson, A.J. IV.

"Everything went pretty good," the elder Foyt said. "I just need to talk to him a little bit in private."

Larry was lapping at 210, making him a strong competitor for DFL.

Let's see... Larry runs FF2000 in a weak region, then does an endo at Atlanta. Gramps pulls him out of openwheel and puts him in NASCAR where he still sucks. And that exempts him from ROP?

May is going to be a hoot.

Has Larry ever actually made a NASCAR field on the basis of his speed, or does he always use a provisional?

What is the NASCAR all time record for number of provisional starts?

At least once, late last year in Homestead. He actually qualified 12th...and finished 16th!

But yes, it is the exception.

IIRC, he was driving an Evrenham car with Foyt decals on it.

For all we know Larry and Quatro might be the Fangio twins....Hell, I'm thinking PT and Lil E would look pretty sorry in the Portly Texan's equipment.

That said, is this shaping up to be some kind of Jerry Springer episode or what?

Ol' AJ trying to bully his two questionable offsprings into the greatest specatacle while Barnhart explains to the press how this year's entry list is all about quality rather than quantity.

"This is quite true"

Hey, maybe Larry can do the Memorial Day Double, which is to say fail to qualify for BOTH races.

Provided, of course, that more than 33 drivers attempt to qualify at the Marion County 500 this year.

This action is proof that loyality is still more important than brains and good common sense at 16th & Georgetown in Speedway Indiana.

IV and Larry are both practicing today. IV has about a tenth on Larry. Both are around 42 seconds/214 mph

Indy news station carried a story last night about John Andretti hanging around Foyt's pit carrying his helmet bag looking for a ride.

Larry may have to bring $$ to secure the ride.

I don't think we have yet. Every time I say that, the IRL comes up with something even dumber, crazier, more pathetic, or more shocking.

Larry was 35th next to last on speed at Texas a few weeks ago. Foyt's teams have been descending further into jokedom lately, but give credit where it's due, Brack's 98 IRL Championship, 99 Indy 500 win, Brack's IRL wins and Sharp and Boat's IRL wins. Not that those mean anything after 1995, of course.

Those mentioned "victories" occurred before Ganassi showed up with Montoya
at Indy in 2000.
