View Full Version : Who should replace Bob Jenkins?
Ok, I'm thinking that Arute is out - so who would be the best available choice?

gotta wonder how "ol Bob's contract is worded before we consider a replacement.
Remember Charlie Jones doing the Medowlands? That was it's own kind of grim.
I know Varsha is already contracted but he would be my choice. The guy on the international feed would be a nice change of pace.
at the end of the day I still think the guys at OWRS have more to worry about than than the short-term talking head.
Varsha, Beekus,Pruett,Hobbs,Daley. The list is quite long without Arute,Page or Jenkins. What were the 3 Amigos thinking when they gave that tool a job.

As I have stated many times, it is time for a talent search. The current list of candidates usually stated are not stellar. I like Robin Miller as a first start. At least he is entertaining, yet does not have an agenda.

Robin Miller, Mario, and Paul Newman.
Ken Squier and Jackie Stewart.

For mapguy & JT265 I would even take the dynamic duo from the
early days of the the Toronto INDY that used to broadcast live
from Thunder Ally on the $10 dollar friday at 10 in the morning... they
both seemed to be pissed....you know who I mean...
Brian Williams and Bobby Unser... :shakehead
Thats how far I will go to replace BeeJay...at least he has good initials..

Bob Jenkins replacement should be everything he is not.
He should be someone who loves racing.
Someone who shows up to do their job, no matter what.
Someone who gives 100% all the time.
Someone who knows the business.
Someone who is respected by the drivers and teams.
Someone who has been out there on the tarmac with the cars.
Someone whose commitment to the sport is not diminished by any beating they may receive for doing their job.
Someone who is not afraid to stand out.
Someone who is not afraid to go one-on-one with drivers.
Someone who will stand out with diehard and casual fans alike.
Someone that is recognizable instantly.
Someone whose experience and credibility is without parallel or question.
Given all the above qualifications for a credible announcer for our series, I can forsee only one candidate for the job:

If we cannot have this respected member of motorsports as our announcer, then I will humbly settle for Jeremy Shaw.

 I haven't heard Bobby say, "Watch out fer that ceeee-ment wall..." in such a long time...
Let's stick Vic Rauter in the booth with him, that'd be a wild mix of style and personality!!! :p

You are a glutton for punishment aren't you?
(BTW-Thanks Mappy and Scanner!) ;)
I know some can't stand him, but I'd nominate Gary Gerould.
He knows the players, and he has play by play experience with the Sacramento Kings. (And, he couldn't ask "What is your emotion?" from the booth.)

Varsha and Daley in the booth with Beikhus and Gerould roving the pits.

Forget the usual suspects, it's time for a fresh new face. Some longtime fan with a booming, not screaming voice. There are enough ex-drivers that do color commentary, I want a new voice in announcing.
Jeremy Shaw, Tommy Kendall & Jon Beekhuis.
Parker grates on my nerves. I don't know why.

I think if they could get Hobbs and Daley together then the play-by-play guy could be anyone. My favorite crew was Daley, Posey and Hobbs. Posey didn't even matter much because Hobbs and Daley were like kids in a candy store the whole time.
Hmmmm, most of the guys mentioned here are color guys rather than play-by-play commentators. While I have no issues with DD, Parker, or Jon...how about John Kernan? Just a thought. JK was an active member @ 7G.

don't you realize that many here will tell you that JK is forever infested with the old speedplant cooties after hosting the nightly Indy segment for the duece?
any connection with 16th and Georgetown is permanent mark on your soul.
or so I've been told
Really, I should do it. I would be really good at it. They would just have to buy my plane ticket and hotel room plus food
I would agree to a trial run

Ziggy, you would be a hoot in the booth. There would be no doubt which side of the fence you're on, either! Have Eagle104 help you with an audition tape, hehehehe...

JK was never the shill that Jenkins was/is....
Besides, if it's as absolute as you make it out to be, PT, Jeemy, etc. have marks against them for racing @ the 'yard. Didn't PT race for 'ol Rog once? Jeemy for Fat Bastard? MJ for Rahal? What about Parker? :shakehead
I rest my case....

you don't have to convince me racefan, I realize that racers are loyal to the next paycheck.
others may disagree
besides, if Zig's throwin his hat in the ring it's pretty much decided for me.
Now if we can just find a sponsor to pay for the FCC violations we've got it made.

Kernan was always a shill. I hated his constant pimping of his lame-ass TV show. No way on JK.
Sounds to me like you're sitting on the fence.
Hey, maybe "MURPH" will be available, seeing as the IRL is nothing but CART nowadays. :gomer:

Sorry, honey. No fence sitting for me. You don't/won't see me posting about Indy in The Others. I just made a simple suggestion. No need to go throwing around labels. Peace.

A rumor has been floated at that forum that promotes the other side that suggests that an ABC trailer has shown up at Monterrey. That trailer contains the new race announcer that has replaced Jenkins, it is none other than............Paul Page  ! Let's hope it is just a cruel joke.

I'm prepared to accept that the Jenk is with us this weekend.....
My guess is that he's cruised this(and other) websites and has heard all the carping. Lets see if he's buckled down and done his homework.
My guess (again) is that he has.
Any-o-you guys out there ever screwed up ?
If he sucks again this weekend..........off with his head.
