that Indy qualification TV ratings down 40%. Just read it in the print edition, but can't find the article on their website. The article's main story was that most sports were showing an increase in ratings. Baseball being up the most.

someone will need to dig up the latest endy 495.5 ratings poll to see how accurate our predictions were.
despite the lead in issue for quals, if you assume qualifying and race ratings have a relationship and apply a 40% decrease on last years 5-hunnert rating of a 4.6 and you have a mere 2.76!!! Now that's what I call givin the sport a good fixin!

Tony don't care 'bout no TV ratin's! His godfather has an engine and is in the big show, that's all that matters!
The article's main story was that most sports were showing an increase in ratings. Baseball being up the most.
But this can't be. According to Defender, ALL sports ratings are down so the I500 is doing just fine. :shakehead
Scoarched earth propaganda by numbnuts on the three amigo's payroll. Everyone knows that Joyce Julius reports indicate that all sports tv programming is trending down with the exception of the NFL and NASCAR. The IRL is doing its part but, the partner is failing.
GET WITH THE PROGRAM! :D
Ouch! Thats gotta hurt :D
It's all the Broadcast Partner's fault.

You beat me to it. Defender is going to have to think to explain this one. Maybe he should stick to installing cable. His fantasy world is collasping.

I'm no Hooter:Morgan, but I will try.
It's CART's fault. CART attracted fans that did not have enough respect and awe for the speedway. Many CART fans dared to be gunuine racing fans and not place fans of IMS. They created all the altificial demand for 500 tickets by renewing the first week in June for the next race and submitting new orders, dispalcing legitimate place fans, forcing them to watch the race on TV. This is why the TV ratings were so high in the evil CART era. It is also why the pole day crowds were so high - the ligitimate, respectful, and reverent, place fans were relagated to watching practice and qualifying.
When TG formed the IRL, the race fans stopped coming, and the place fans bought tickets to the race instead of watching the race on TV or attending pole day. That is why the TV ratings continue to go down.
So, how did I do?

But seriously, how does this compare to the '96 Phoenix race? And I bet somewhere there is documentation that shows this was part of the old CART plan to destroy everything Indy! :D ;)
I was at carboration day in '93, and saw more fans along the pit wall than I saw in the stands on fill day.

JL Mannin, not bad, but you neglected the part about a bad broadcast partner having a role in this.

And it doesn't explain the fall in race attendance. Time for another version of your vision. :p
There's nothing wrong with Indy that fenders and a 355 OHV V8 wouldn't fix.
It has to be in the front though

Shorty Jones. Go Shorty Jones!!!
When Smarty runs, the ratings hit record levels. Same with the crowds. The American people have spoken! We'd rather watch a four-legged animal trot, than a kool-aid drinkin' human drive. There is hope.
