We are looking to buy a new refrigerator and I have been doing some research. I have noticed that the EnergyStar models run about $300 higher than a comparable unit w/o the EnergyStar benefit. For example: Unit A, EnergyStar compliant, costs $51/year to operate, price about $1200. Unit B, same features as unit A, but not ES compliant, costs about $60/yr to operate, price about $900. To me it just doesn't seem worth the extra $300 output upfront to save $9 a year. (There is a small rebate on the ES unit of $50 or $75 I think.) Am I missing something here? Anyone else had experience with this?
