In November 1981, Gilles Villeneuve in his Ferrari 126 CK raced a jet.
Then Patrick in Champ Cars. http://www.car.co.nz/images/media/indycar_vs_f18.mpeg

The F-15 can reach a top speed of 205 mph before taking off. Wheldon’s two-seater, in which he gives rides on tracks where the IndyCar Series races, hit a top speed of 208 mph with the current gear setup.
The result: Wheldon, on a taxiway 750 feet apart from the active runway of the F-15 Eagle, was ahead at the one-quarter-mile mark of the half-mile race. Maj. Anderson caught up and then pulled back on the stick to go airborne.
Foul! Even with its front and rear wings, the two-seater can’t fly.
He should have used the single-seater.
He should have used the single-seater.
They probably used the 2 seater so they had an excuse when their car lost.

I believe the earl car could go up at an even slower speed. Anyone have a guess on that speed?
Anyone?......
Anyone?...... :gomer:

Yes, I don't think the IRL should be reminding anyone of crapwagon taking flight. RIP Renna :(
