i and a friend of mine who is a regular at cw were passing by the semi souvenier-truck with the schedule on it. he wondered what the two "tba" events would be. it just so happened that ralph shaheen passed us by so i suggested that we ask him.
the following information may be taken as rumor and hearsay and is only speculation that may be posted on other messageboards and fansites NOT associated with markc
he says that right now his sources say south korea is looking more and more unlikely this year. gentilozzi is known as a big gambler so the vegas race as the finale is a very strong possibility. as long as he can guarantee a certain large amount of people the casinos will do whatever OWRS wants. and a big sleeper, one of those races, possibly the first tba could be... ST. PETERSBURG.
also, he says to expect next year's sched at the end of this month or next.

hey!
some of us have lives you know.
;)
(honestly if this came out last week i had no idea)
I heard these rumors at the track, but I'd rather have people posting the info than just assuming that everyone has heard it.

OK, so as to not be a TOTAL dick.....
South Korea - this will happen in 2005 for sure. David Clare travelled there about a month ago and was told not to come back without a contract....a signed contract. He has contacts there and Hankook Tires may be a factor.
Vegas - maybe, maybe, maybe this year, but 05 for sure. A well known Caino/Hotel complex parking lot is most likely. Coordinating it with SEMA for 05, couldn't get it (part of SEMA) done this year. Oval track rental might come about for this year. KK lives in Reno. PT, JV, Tags, etc live in Vegas. This is high on everyone's list. I give it a 20% chance for this year. But in a couple years, this COULD be the marquis event of CCWS.
Road Atlanta - WAS in negotiations for this year. My guess is it isn;t high on the priority list, but the proximity to the major metro area of ATL is worth keeping this in the hopper.
Barber - ain't gonna happen. Unless we start running 200 hp I4s. :gomer:
St. Pete's. Looking very good for 05. Should be season opener in early March. The city wants it, CCWS wants it, and it makes sense for so many Midwesterners, East Coasters for a nice spring weekend getaway from the snow. I'll bet it is the season opener in 05. I was there in 03, very cool layout and much needed sun.
Rockingham - maybe....working on it.
Lausitz - maybe....working on it.
South Africa - Who knows. The country/township/whatever has some money and a circuit. Flip a coin.
Argentina - Mazzacane.
Brazil - Emo is working on it, but he is working on a lot of schit. Brazil is perhaps the wierdest, most unsafe, most flipfloppy country West of Ireland.
MidOhio - as long as Michelle is there, I'm afraid it ain't gonna happen. I wish it would, but she has a bad rep for keeping her racetrack up to speed, and her crew pretty much fails at the promotions game. If they hold an eARL race, it will be decades before CCWS goes back.
Engines:
Honda - file this under "Never gonna happen"
Yoda - same file.
But you may see some new names for the series coming in in 06.
Schedule:
KK is hip on the F1 style "every 2 weeks or so" schedule. And setting that schedule EARLY (my guess is around Road America) is key to further sponsorships, etc. I don;t see any tracks we race omn now going away. I HOPE that we have a 20 race schedule for 05 and beyond.
Teams
CCWS is talking to SEVERAL people about new teams. I saw we are at 22 solid for next year.
As always - these are educated guesses and assumptions based on stuff I hear. So put that disclosure in your quotes Mr. Wilke. ;)

A fourth race in Canada is possible in '05, and ABC/ESPN said that if earl rating don't improve, the rest of this year's broadcasts willl be on nickelodeon 2

Spiccoli,
As per the Vegas deal: One of the PR staff at LVMS has a personal tie-in to Rocketsports...Can't remember if it's a nephew or a cousin, but I have talked to the PR staff AT LENGTH about the feasability of a season-ending shindig in Vegas...Mr Eidswick needs to talk very nice to the state of Nevada after the damage done by "Jargon Joe".
IF OWRS "rents" the oval this year, I'm sure they will make some money off the event.
40k in the house, they break even...
60k or over in the house, EVERYBODY makes money!

Plus something about a bunch of missing socks. But the last I heard Joe was still on Gerry's payroll...

Yep - he runs GF's promotional side of racing - maily the Mexican events.
Not sure that not moving to Vegas pissed off Vegas enough to not want us back...
A Vegas race in general  ....A Vegas race in a parking lot
St Pete coming back....
The two Euro tracks are something I'd like to see developed, not so sure what the appeal is for Korea other than a big check. Although it's a developing area economically, I would think Europe would have more long term promise...mfg's, sponsors, drivers, long term motorsports fans...
All in all , great news.

I've always been surprised that Road Atlanta hasn't held a CART/OWRS race. It seems like such a natural fit -- a great market for the sponsors, a great track for the drivers and fans, and another "natural-terrain" road circuit to maintain ChampCar's diversity (especially with the demise of Mid-Ohio). If Road Atlanta ever gets a ChampCar race I would but tickets immediately if not sooner.

it appears that the inaugural Seoul, South Korea, race scheduled for Oct. 17 is dead in the water.
"(Korea) will resolve itself publicly very quickly," said Champ Car's David Clare.
