The race was good last year. I did not go but heard good reports.
My wife grew up in PR and went to high school in Condado not far from the track. Condado has most of the nicer hotels and clubs and a very nice beach.
The Isla Grande Airport is in a good location, near the 500 year old El Morro and Geronimo forts. Also its not far from Old San Juan. Nothing like drinking an icy adult beverage in a 500 year old bar.
But get out of San Juan too. Go to the rain forest. Head to remote beaches like Playa Grande and Buena Vista (there are many). Eat local food.
A word about PR though. Crime and security have to be thought about. And just expect a slower, lower level of service in just about everything. You just have to bring a different standard with you and in a way its refreshing to just let stuff not bother you.
Friend of mine went to the TransAm race last year, and had a blast. Saw some very cool pictures.

I've been there about 24 times on my cruise ship. I know it's a chain but I loved the Fuddruckers in Condado. The museum and the huge radio telescope in Arecibo (about 30-40 minutes from San Juan) is worth a visit. Nice scenery too in that area. The Bacardi Rum factory across the Bay from San Juan is worth a visit too, and there are free samples there. The two old forts are walking distance apart in Old San Juan and are very much worth seeing. Oh and if you like looking at women, the mall Plaza Las Americas is filled with them, some of the sexiest women I've ever seen in my life. As for crime, I never had any problems going to these places during the day (nor did I hear of any with our crew or guests) but I'm sure certain neighborhoods at night could be a problem.

Is the entry list going to be any better, though?
Toronto results (http://www.trans-amseries.com/Event/SessionResults.asp?SessionID=26)
Pretty sad.
Wow, that is sad. Has T/A gotten so expensive that folks can't roll out five year old cars anymore? That's what really filled the grids over the years. No TV can't help.

It really isn't but for me TA might as well be "no tv". I won't be getting HDTV anytime soon, as much as I love TV, I really don't see the point of blowing over a grand on one right now. So I can't see races there, and I haven't a clue when the 30 minute highlight show is on Spike. It's a shame too, because I really wanted to see the return of TK, and I've not missed a lot of TA races in about 12 years of watching it.

The highlights have become part of Dangerous Curves, which is moving to 10:00am on Sundays.

Is that track up to snuff?
Then again...it couldn't be any worse thatn last year's Brands and Miami circuits.

I watched the TransAm race on TV last year. It is like a smaller, tighter version of Cleveland.

Great! Sounds like a nice way to end the year.
Here's one thing I don't understand (one of many things), why doesn't some sharp travel agency (or travel club) jump on boad and make each and every Champ Car fan their best friend? I have no idea how many people might go down to Puerto Rico for the race, but let's say it's 10K. Let's say 2500 of them book through We Love Champ Car Travel Agency, LLC, which is also a series sponsor... A discounted airfare, a discounted package for certain hotels, rental cars, race tickets, etc.
So I can't figure that out, or why there isn't a Hertz/Avis/Enterprise co-sponsored car, a Hilton Hotels car, an American Express car...
Add all of this to the long list of things that I just don't get. I don't mean to hijack this thread or take it way off-topic, but wouldn't you folks rather spend money (that's going to be spent anyway) with someone who supports the series? It seems like low hanging fruit. Someone help me understand this... please!
I wonder how many business bigwigs are going to get free Gulfstream rides down to Puerto Rico. :)
