If I stare at this screen much longer, I think my eyes will explode.

Come git some. I had to be really selective. I coulda put 50 more in the gallery easy... but I don't have time and it probably woulda been overkill. My main regret is not taking more pictures during the race... but I try to make a habit of actually watching the race and not focusing so much on photography.

The main consequence of this is that I didn't get one really good shot of Dinger's car with the Sunday live strong livery. :(

Anyway... hope y'all enjoy.

Well..... I guess that really shows the difference between a $400 digital camera and a $2000 rig! guess I need to start looking the in the cracks of the couch for more pennies!

Good stuff Jamie. Cant wait to see what you and Murph get at Spa!

Every single shot was edited in photoshop. It really helps make some of these images come alive. Perhaps I will try to find a comparison between the raw and photoshopped versions... to show what is possible.

btw, this camera can be purchased for around $700-800. I "borrow" it. ;) The zoom was another $300.

WOW! Very nice. You worked your *** off. Where were you to shoot the ground level hurry downs shots? Those are outstanding.

Beautiful work!

And your idea to show some before/after shots sounds great - please share any good p-shop tips. :)

I cropped down a couple of shots. You can tell which ones I did that to.... They don't have the date on them. But as far as adjusting shots I didn't do any changes to any of mine... If the exposure sucked I ditched it. :gomer:

What camera and length of lens did you use?....I have been toying with the idea of purchasing the Canon Digital Rebel if for no other reason than I have the 35mm version and three different lenses...Don't mind splashing for the digital body..but I'l be buggered if I'm buying new lenses!!

Digital Rebel. The lense it came with and a 75-300 zoom (also by Canon) are the only 2 lenses I used.

Fantastic work, as always!

You've probably done more for Rebel sales than any paid celebrity that they've ever had!

Great Photos Crapus! Just awesome! Your PhotoShop techniques are subtle and do not affect the integrity of the picture. I like to go over board to compensate for my lack of photo equipment and talent. ;)

Here is one of my favorite PhotoShop tricks and it's incredibly easy to do. It's called the Quick Mask. You don't have expensive filters and lenses for your camera? Don't fret, emulate them with the Quick Mask!

Make a new layer and press your Q key on your keyboard. The image title bar will show that you are now in the Quick Mask mode. Select your radial gradient tool and click and drag your cursor over an area of interest in your photo. Release your click and you will see a red circle which represents your mask. If it's not lined up where you want it, just press 'control Z' to undo and try again. It may take a few times to get the hang of it. Once it's where you want it, press your Q button again and you will now have a mask selection. Chose a filter from the filter drop down and hit apply. Press 'control D' to remove your selection and presto!, it's magic! Then I like to increase the color saturation to make the colors pop.

I used one of Crapus' photos as an example. Crapus, it's not available to the public and I will remove it within 24 hours. I like using a Gaussian blur on my mask to emulate a telephoto lens and filter, but remember you can use any filter or a combination to achieve your desired results.

Ok... that is the bomb. No need to remove it.

Thanks for the quick tutorial. I will certainly try some stuff like that in the future. You chose a very good shot for this kinda treatment.

My shops are totally subtle by comparison. Usually just working on color correction, contrast, auto-leveling and sharpening. I will have to try to find an original to show you what I mean.

The very best shots really require no tweaking at all. Like the Team Newman-Haas through 6 shot. That's pretty much how it came out of the camera... the 3072x2048 version is wicked sharp.

Thanks, Jamie.
It seems my 1946 model box camera just can't catch the race cars when they go faster than 40 mph.

Thanks a lot! Your photo expertise is much appreciated. Great set of photos. Catching Danica making a pass was sweet. Excellent job.
