He will retire at the end of the season. His only win came at Monaco while driving for Ligier. He will stay on as a test driver and third driver for Toyota.

I like Panis. That Monaco win was down to strategy, but he still had to drive his nuts off to make it work. He had good results with Ligier, but his cars just seemed to get worse the longer his career went. And, impressive to me, I don't ever recall him whining about his cars or his team mates - he just got on with the job. Enjoy your retirement, Olivier. :thumbup:

Sorry to see him go. I always thought he was better than the equipment given him ala Chris Amon or Tom Pryce, but unlike those two very good drivers, Panis has a win and they didn't get one (unfortunately).
I remember his Monaco win. For one day only the French were on top of the world.
