View Full Version : Bad news in the vintage Porsche Speedster world.

This weekend, at a vintage Porsche show in Ventura, CA, a group of Speedsters and a couple of other Porsches were loaded onto a transporter for the trip home to Costa Mesa, CA. The driver attempted to cross a railroad track, high-centered the trailer, and the rest, as they say, is history. Nobody was (physically) injured, thankfully. Pics are from Wayne at Pelican Parts.

Well, it wont be cheap, but I would imagine all those cars will be repaired. Wonder who the truck driver was? and if this was an insurance job?

The red speedster and the white speedster can possibly be repaired. The red 356 coupe, black speedster, and the especially the black 911 Carrera cab are total losses. I say "especially" on the 911 because it was only a $20k car to begin with. The black speedster was probably worth in the neighborhood of $60-$70k, especially with the rare removable hardtop option.

I worked for a guy in a shop for a couple of years who re did wrecked exotics. His specialties were Porsche's. The reason? Lots of the 911 turbo models usually caught out the drivers by snapping around and hit rear first, sometimes very hard.

I agree about the red one, but I have seen worse fixed.

If you ever buy a used Sportscar, be sure to really, really check it out. Lots of rebuilt totals running around.

Before I got on here tonight, I was stuck at my brother's while they watched a boring movie, so I read that in the paper, but with no pictures. The police officer on the scene said the train center punched the trailer which was stuck on the track. Despite the officer's attempt to call the train company to get it stopped it was of no avail. Yesterday I spent the better part of a band break at our gig in Belmont Shore in Long Beach staring at a beautiful red Porsche speedster, really studying it. I'm sure it was on it's way back from the show, being driven and not trailered. To read this article the next day and now to see these pics, after seeing that car really floors me.

Neither the transport company or the owners of the cars have insurance. Total damage is reported at $375,000US. The driver was taking a shortcut to the expressway "

If the transport co. has no insurance, look for someone to go straight to jail without the benefit of collecting the $200.

That was one train wreck I didn't need to see. Ouch!

Could have been worse though... it could have happened to me!

I noticed it didn't take long for those pics to get uploaded into space.

It really does matter which trucking company you hire... I use Intercity Lines and if they're busy I wait.
