10 bucks says the soccer mom down the street from me will be trading her diesel Expedition that she ferries around her TWO WHOLE KIDS in, and never tows anything, for this behemoth.

I do wonder what the towing capacity is, though. :cool:

That puppy easily classifies as a T4 in the Paris/Dakar rally. It might be able to give some of those lorries a run for their money.

I was waiting for Ford to market an upscale UPS truck as their new kid-hauler SUV. Looks like they've skipped right over that one and taken the next step. Look for one soon riding your back bumper in the left lane of the highway (while you're already doing 20 over). :thumdown:

That's just dumb. On soooo many levels.

Good news tho' RM3. Unless Farm-All tore the air system outta this thing in favor of juice brakes, your soccer mom will have to upgrade her licence before she rocks in that lump.

The sad news? If they did go to juice brakes, expect the thing to be a runaway with flaming/faded brakes after about three hard pulls on 'em.

The are talking about targeting the boat and trailer towing market, but most of us know people who will buy them to run errands in. How long until one of those knuckleheads tries to put it in a parking garage or a drive thru.... :D

You don't need a CDL.

But you DO need an "air ticket" which basically shows that you know what failed as you slide off the mountain road into the wild blue yonder of space.

Before you hit the ground with a large "thump" of course.

The only up side I can see to that bohemoth being available to the general public is that most incorporated cities have a vehicle weight limit for city streets (it's 10k lbs. here and intended to keep commercial vehicles from "skirting" major thoroughfares), but the law could be applied to POVs if the local law enforcement wanted a "cash cow".

I have heard of several cities that have a 6k lbs weight limit beginning to "tag" people in oversize SUVs (a BMW X-5 weighs over 6000lbs empty, a Ford Excursion around 8,000, an H2 8600, and an H1 is over 10,000lbs).

A few municipalities are also debating over raising the 2nd offense fine from $75 to $1000...I'd vote for that!

Unless you need to transport your 90' yacht (by trailer), I don't see a true purpose for such a vehicle (unless you count steamrolling the offices at 16th and Georgetown! :D).

Any soccer mom worth the name in Portland will drive that thing around town for six months of the year with studded tires, then refuse to leave the driveway if it actually snows. :shakehead

I would be willing to bet that any police officer here in Texas would cite the driver of that thing for not having a CDL, regardless of what the manufacturer says. It is basically a commercial tractor-trailor rig without the actual trailer. It has the size, mass, and driving characteristics of a tractor-trailor, and therefore anyone who drives one should IMHO be required to obtain the same license as a school bus driver or Coca-Cola driver.

For those of you like me that dislike the mamouth SUV trend, check out this article from this month's Motor Trend magazine where they pit a Mini Cooper S against an H2: :D
