The article said he was on a 1000 Honda. I know the Suzuki Hyabusa is a 200mph bike out of the box. Heck, my friend does 155 on his GSX-R 600 regularly on I95.

What is sad/funny about it is that its his third DUI, making this one a felony. Of course, this happend in Madison county which means its a crap shoot on how the courts will handle it.

I think the speed reported is extremely suspect. An RC51 would need a ton of modifications to hit that speed.

Perhaps your fine men in blue wouldn't have to harass intoxicated lawn mower operators if your county had another revenue stream to bolster your politicians pockets.... er Counties bottom line.

Of course, I'm suggesting Madison Co. look south at all the fine after hours gentlemens establishments in St. Clair co. By looking at what joints like Roxies, Diamond Cabaret and PT's have done for cities like Brooklyn, East St.Louis and Sauget, you'll understand why Madison county is crying out for this type of entertainment. Your tax base is bolstered by horny Missouri men crossing the river for a little adult men fun and you certainly never hear anyone complain about drunken lawnmower operators in Washington Park. ;)

As it is, motorcycle experts say that most unmodified sport bikes already top out at about 185 mph because of limits with their fuel injectors.

To get an RC51 up to 200 mph, they say, the owner would have to change the motorcycle's transmission, fuel injectors and gears — and might have to add either a supercharger or pump nitrous oxide or methane into the fuel system.

All of these changes are possible, but expensive. And anyone with those kinds of modifications isn't likely to tool around southern Minnesota with nitrous or jet fuel in his bike, they say.

"It's just not something that some dude can roll out of his garage and go for a ride and do," Ulrich said. "A hundred fifty? No problem. Two hundred? Big problem."

I called BS on that speed as soon as I read it, figuring the trooper botched the timing. Now I see that this speed record took place in the midst of some kind of motorcycle tour. Now I'm guessing that they just lost sight of one biker and picked up another.

How high up was the chopper doing the timing?
How fast was the chopper going?
How good was his line of sight?
How wide are the timing stripes?
Generally how accurate IS a hand held stopwatch on an object doing 150-200mph?

Jet fuel used in turbine engines (eg. Jet-A) is indeed a derivative of kerosene. Most of the difference is in the additives for aircraft use.

I called BS on that speed as soon as I read it, figuring the trooper botched the timing. Absolutely, and the kid will likely get a walk as a result. The bike simply isn't capable of 205mph. The kid is telling it straight, the RC51 is a 160mph bike. That's incredible for a two cylinder engine, but it's not 205mph. Odds are he was going around the same speed as his buddy which was 111mph.

People have no concept of how fast 205mph is and what it takes to push enough air to get there let alone the kind of tires it requires to get there and live to tell about it. Getting a 175mph bike, or car, to hit 205mph takes serious mods. I've had a lot of fast motorcycles and cars going back 30yrs, and I've run on the Black Rock Desert and driven in the Silver State Classic and other open road races. In all those years I've never, ever, seen a stock anything break 200mph. The only cars and bikes that show up and run above 200mph are full-on race iron that arrive on trailers.

The Suzuki Hayabusa comes as close as any bike, and most testers list 189mph as the top speed. The US is a 1/4 mile culture and any bike that runs the quarter in the high 9's @ nearly 150mph is certainly impressive, but none of them make a 200mph hole in the air. Yet....
