View Full Version : Cool photo site
Looking around for GTP photos I found this site. A great trip down memory road with pics from most events from the 80s and early 90s.

Just saw this one at Goodwood.

Yep, photos from each year of the C'bus 500 on there.
Good idea to edit. Photos linked from other sites don't use our bandwith, but they do use the photo site's bandwith.

I never got to go to that race, but my dad told me it was pretty cool watching a race on top of an office building.

The Columbus IMSA races where a tonne of fun. I took a lot of friends to those race weekends and the sight and sound of a 962 chirpping it's tires with too much understeer through the city streets impressed even the complete non fan.

What a great site!
Was anyone else at the 1983 Six Hours of Mid-Ohio? It poured rain, but what gorgeous cars, especially the Aston Martin (http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1983/Mid-Ohio-1983-06-19-022.jpg)! By the way, the site list Drake Olson as the driver -- he also drove the winning Porsche 962 at the first IMSA race at Columbus in 1985, (which I also attended). Does anyone know whatever happened to him? I remember thinking at the time that he was an American driver with the potential to "go somewhere," but he seemed to disappear from the limelight not long afterwards.

I'd forgotten about the Dekon Monzas (http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1977/Laguna_Seca-1977-05-01-001.jpg). I remember Al Holbert racing one and some teams used a Monza for some tracks and a 934 for the others depending on which track suited which car better.

Man, those days were fun. City hall in the background. I was there in a LaVeque Tower garage. Not a good place to catch the race, tho, due to the sound echoing in the garage. Made it 100x louder. Ouch.

Check out some of the Interseries race photos on racingsportscars.com to find out what happened to all those old March and Lola tubs from the 80's.

Yes. My dad didn't want to take me to Columbus or to Burke back then, only Mid-Ohio because of how wide open the spectator areas were.

Since you just turned 21, grasshopper, you would have been 2-6 for those races. Burke and MO wouldn't have been bad @ that age, but the CBus races were way loud. Much louder than I recall the C^RT Houston races.

I remember it well. Those Aston Martins were gorgeous but not really competitive. I hoped they would develop them but nothing ever came of them.
Also remember Drake Olson as a talent who just disappeared. Of course back then someone "disappeared" if they just switched to a series that On Track didn't cover. :)

Excellent question for which I have no answer. And does anyone have photos of Drake's sole CART appearance?
And did Chip Robinson ever return to civilization after he went RV-ing?
And what about David Tennyson? Last I heard, he was being rumored for a CART ride with AJ...

My VERY first live race of any kind was the 1990 San Antonio GP. Anyone know where I can find the resin model Starter did of Juan Fangio II's winning AAR Toyota?

Tennyson's dead, but I hear you can find some good poetry of his in your local library

Thanks for googling Drake for us!
I'm glad to see that he found something else very cool to do after his racing career. If I go to Alaska again sometime, I might just have to look into his tour company.
