Is this camara really as good as they say?

I've had the 4megapixal version of this camera for about 14 months. I absolutely love it.

A couple of things to keep in mind though, some cons: Inconsistent light adjustments when in auto-focus mode. But this is overcome by just snapping away, "hey, I still have 368 pictures left!".
My wife thinks the menu interface is clumsy.
I wish it had a bit more optical zoom or at least the option for add-on telephoto lenses like some of the new Canon's do.

Some pros, it does a good job of being a point and shooter and yet still having the power options for the more experienced photog. Such as, manual aperture, focus and shutter adjustments. Also, you can plug in an external flash unit. Although, it has such a good 'white balance' that I rarely use the built in flash.

I love the remote control and the direct A/V output to display your pictures on your TV.

One thing that I really like about Olympus is their build quality. The salesman who sold me mine literally threw it on the floor, picked it back up and it worked perfectly. It's built on an aluminum chassis. Tough camera.

I will also vouch for Olympus build quality. While I'm down in the dumps at 2mp, my Olympus Digi is a rock and has excellent glass in it.

But, my brother in law has a real bargain basement 2mp and he just got a new HP photo printer (4800x1200 dpi!). His printed pictures look ten times better than mine from my older 300x300 printer with photo paper. I'm getting one of those printers soon. He paid $165 for his. Sweet.

We just got one 2 weeks ago and yes. It really is so far as good as they say. My husband used to be a photagrapher and he wanted something more than just a digital again. We have been messing with it doing all kinds of different things and so far it is amazing the quality of the pictures. We have only saved one pic on the net so far if you want to see the quality at just a normal auto shot.

In taking pictures just around the house I am amazed at all the cat and dog hair showing up in pictures that I can't see. lol
We plan on taking it to the meet at Woo Doggies this weekend so will have a bunch more pictures to put up next week.

Dudes, if you are going to get a digital camera, get a real digital camera. (http://www.canoneos.com/d60/index.html)

Sure, tell me where I can get that $2800 camera for the $600 of the 5050...

Nice. I little pricey for a 6.3mp though. Pricewatch says $2499, which means about $3000 in a camera shop. Out of my price range. I only paid $650 for my 4mp.

Here's a 5mp pro quality Olympus for $1200.

Someone told me that a pro quality 35mm film camera is equivalent to a 9mp digi. I can't even find a 9mp.

Easy there trigger. It is just under $2k. Mind you, the best non-SLR digital camera IMHO is Sony's DSC-F717 (http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11178479&m=82&cat=83&scat=84) . It's got the best lens of any non-SLR (Carl Zeiss) and worth the $999.

You can get a D60 for less than 2k. A&M Photo has it for under $1800. (http://www.amphotoworld.com/product.asp?id=cneosd60)

As long as you don't actually want a lens, right?

OK, ya got me there. For an extra $250 you can get a great 28-200 zoom that will take care of pretty much anything that you would want to do.

I have the C4040 and like it. It is my first digi camera so, I really don't have anything to compare it to.

If you get it, I don't think it could be considered a mistake.

Thanks for the feedback.

Mapguy, That Canon looks sa-weet, but a little too pricey for what I intend to do.
