Some of the biggest names in the world of auto racing will appear in Edmonton next summer.
The Champ Car World Series is adding the Alberta city as its fourth Canadian stop on its racing circuit, Greg Macdonald, one of the organizers of the local race, said Wednesday.
He said the series will be held at Edmonton's municipal airport July 15-17.

Edmonton's little near city general aviation/business airport has major runways in a V instead of parallel as at Burke Lakefront. This could be a very interesting airport venue.

After Toyota and Honda punked CART, who cares if the General burned down 95% of industrial Japan in 44/45? ;)

Also the father (literally) of a very talented racecar builder. I own one of his cars.
Evidently the course they'll be using has been used for CASCAR before, but I haven't been able to find a track layout anywhere. Google is my friend, but it's letting me down this time.
CASCAR has used a few layouts there.
As a Calgarian, I'm naturally disapointed in this decision as I think Calgary simply has much more to offer visitors.
Having said that, it should be a good event. Now's a good time to make reservations at the Ramada which overlooks the track.

I have never been to Alberta, so for all I know it could be completely different, but based on some comments posted by Canadians elsewhere, there wasn't going to be a winner either way. :gomer:

3.2 km (1.96 mi) course. Pretty good layout given the restrictions (needing to keep the airport operational).
