For us Xbox fanboys, this is a huge day in Xbox gaming. I was rather pleasantly surprised when I saw and heard blurbs on the TV and radio news casts about the release of Halo 2. While I am an uber geek, I wasn't one of the many that stood in line at midnight to get my copy. I strolled into Best Buy at lunch and plucked one of the many off the shelf. I did notice that almost every person in line with me, about 15 folks, had it in their hand, young and old alike. Halo wasn't the best game ever, but it did have a certain uniqueness all it's own. I can't wait to get home, turn off the lights, crank up my 5.1 DTS and mow down some Coventry!
I'm also really excited about Prince of Persia 2 - The Warrior Within. The first Prince of Persia (well, technically not the first but that's another story, let's say first on the Xbox) was a true A list game. Incredibly fluid with amazing graphics. The second installment is more than just new enemies and maps, it's a darker, bloodier and more mature PoP with graphics that would make any PC gamer take a second look at an Xbox. I've played through the demo and can't wait to get my hands on the full deal. That one comes out November 16.
PC gamers get the long awaited Half Life 2 next week (also on the 16th). One review I read said that it is a paradigm in gaming. Unfortunately my PC won't be able to handle it and I'm not buying a $350 video card so I'll wait for the dumbed down Xbox version. Oh well, at least I'll have it on my widescreen with DTS.
MechAssault 2 - Lone Wolf is another one I'm really excited about. the sequel to the incredibly entertaining MechAssualt, MA2LW let's you highjack mechs. This one comes out Dec 28.
Need For Speed Underground 2 is due out on Nov 16 too. This arcade racer lets you drag race, drift and circuit race. The first Underground was incredibly fun. Not quite as fun as Burnout 3, but a better 'racer' game.
